“AFTER A LONG, TIRING DAY AT  the office or dealing with a traumatic event, how many of us make our way back home dreaming of a specific dish? Sometimes even just recalling a particular meal soothes frayed nerves. And then getting to actually eat it can be a balm to a weary heart.

My comfort food is a mixed legume stew that my mom used to make. Fortunately, it is easy and quick, so when I need culinary consolation, it takes less than an hour for me to sit down with a delicious bowlful, spoon in hand. As with most comfort food, this meal is not just about the flavours of the dish, but the associated memories.
