Thankfully, you don’t have to be a technical wizard to create a blogging website to house the value you are bound to add to the lives of your soon-to-be readers.

    Before You Even Think about the Tech-Stuff…

    Before creating a blog, you need to make some preparations beforehand. Following aspirations is always fun, but without practicing caution, you are bound to experience failure before you even begin.

    In this chapter, you will need to learn as much as you can about yourself, what you want to blog about, and other issues that can hold you back in the long-run from achieving success through blogging.

    Since most of you are likely total newbies to all this, we have made it simple; just follow along through this step-by-step process to create a strong outline. This will be the base of your blog’s foundation. (a.k.a. this is VITAL to your success!)

    Who will be your targeted audience?

    Your blog’s target audience is a specific group of individuals that your blog’s content, promotions, and advertisements will be aimed towards. In other words, these are the people you are creating your blog for.

    Your blog’s audience and picking the proper group of people is going to heavily affect everything else you will be figuring out in this book, so it’s best we figure it out early.

    Are you going to be appealing to guys who love cars?

    Girls who need help with makeup?

    Parents who want to hear about parenting tips?

    The possibilities are almost endless, so it’s not as hard of a question to answer as it seems, but before you answer this question yourself, let’s ask another important question:

    What will be your blog’s niche?

    Your blog’s niche is a topic or multiple subjects that are clearly defined and covered by your blog. In other words, your content will be written with a specific audience within in a specific niche.

    Finding the proper niche is not only one of the most challenging decisions of a blogger, but one of the most crucial. If your focus is too broad, you will fail to appeal to anyone, which will lead to confusion and failure.

    However, if your niche is too focused, or niched-down, you will have very few people to sell to, which will lead to a lack of traffic, which means not a lot of followers and little to no income for all your efforts. Imagine if your favorite TV show randomly switched genres and characters every couple episodes. I imagine you would be a little peeved, you expect to see the story you were planning on watching.

    So, what’s the difference between that and a random blog? Not much. Not many people are looking to read a blog that’s only about someone’s life. As much fun it may be to talk about yourself, most people just aren’t going to seek out that content, let alone pay for it in some way. We should find a more realistic topic, something that can appeal to people, and be fun to read/write about.

    Picking your blog’s niche:

    What do you enjoy writing about? If you have a passion for gardening, it feels almost natural to start a blog about your garden. Do you love talking with your friends about music? Turn those conversations into blog posts and engage with the online community about your love of music.
