About this ebook

The story of the Tower of Babel and of the confounding of the languages is more than just a myth invented by someone trying to explain the existence of multiple languages. It is an actual historical event mentioned in the histories of multiple nations.
Critics have often rejected the story because of its connection to the Old Testament, while ignoring other ancient documents from other cultures where the same story is told, often in connection to the flood.
The chapter before the one where this event is described in Genesis contains a listing of the descendants of Noah in a document known as the Table of Nations.
In this book, those nations will be traced through history using ancient sources whenever possible. This information will be combined with the history of man as written in DNA to confirm the truth of the story.

I would like to thank several of my friends in the ministry who encouraged me to pursue this project, my wife and children who listened to countless stories during the research and writing of the book,   and Noah Vancina, who voluntarily gave of his time to edit the book during his internship here in Germany.

    Introduction

Dr. Jerry A. Coyne, a professor in the Department of Ecology and Evolution at the University of Chicago and author of Why Evolution is True, posted an article titled Adam and Eve: the ultimate standoff between science and faith (and a contest!), in which he stated that, Genetic data show no evidence of any human bottleneck as small as two people: there are simply too many different kinds of genes around for that to be true.[1] His premise is that if he can prove that mankind did not descend from Adam and Eve, then all belief in God based upon the Bible falls apart.  He states that, Absent their existence, the whole story of human sin and redemption falls to pieces.[2]

I have to give Dr. Coyne a little credit, because he is correct in one point.  If God’s word cannot be trusted on page one, then it cannot be trusted on any other page.  But as to his statement concerning genetic data, he has really gone out on a limb.  Instead of showing evolution to be true, he has with one statement declared it to be false, for if all of the different kinds of genes could not possibly have come from a group as small as two people, then it certainly could not have come from anything less!

You can give evolutionist as much leeway as you want, and even allow them their claim that humans evolved from lesser life forms. But you must then believe that all of these different kinds of genes came from those life forms. And those life forms got them from where? Eventually you get caught in a slime pit that logically had to contain all the genes for all the various life forms. So the very reason he gives for rejecting the Bible is actually a much greater argument against evolution than it could ever be against the Bible.

The fact is, man did not evolve from animals.  Instead, man was a special creation created by God on the same day that mammals were created. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.[3]

Science tell us that the DNA of man and animals are similar to each other.  Evolutionist point to these similarities as evidence of a common ancestor.  In truth, the evidence actually points to a common creator.  There are indeed many aspects of man that resemble those of the animals created earlier on the same day.  It only makes sense that those systems, which are held in common, should be programmed using the same code.  But there are, in addition to the similarities, also differences that are more than enough to divide the species into separate kinds.

The first chapter of Genesis contains a statement that should be acknowledged as the first of all scientific laws.  It is the law which governs the DNA of plants, animals, and mankind.  Ten times it says, after his kind or after their kind.  Not only does this law rule out the possibility of evolution, it has been proven true by modern attempts at the modification of DNA.  Corn can be genetically modified, but it is still corn.  Ape DNA can and does mutate, but apes will never become human.

But these are not the only differences that distinguish man from animals.  There is something much greater, which is found in Genesis 1:26: And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.  Such a statement was never made concerning any animal.  This relationship between God and man was something special.  Man was created for a purpose, and that purpose was tied to that special relationship.

After God formed man out of the dust of the ground, he caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam.  And he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the Lord God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.[4]  Since Eve was made from Adam’s flesh, it is reasonable to assume that the DNA of Eve was identical to that of Adam in every respect but one: Eve did not have a Y chromosome.

Contained within the DNA of Adam and Eve was all of the variation necessary to produce the diversity seen within today’s population.  This included the entire collection of both dominant and recessive genes.  Additional genes, such as that causing the blood type O, would come into being later, but these were simply mutations of the original genes, which, as in in the case mentioned here, actually result in a loss of function.  Mutations resulting in a gain of function have never been observed.

Although Adam and Eve were created perfect with perfect DNA, they were not exempt from the possibility of death.  God placed Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden, where both the Tree of Life and the Tree of Knowledge of Good and Evil were located.  Adam was given instructions concerning the trees of the garden: And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.[5]  If they believed God, they would obey and live.

In Genesis 3, we read about the temptation brought before Adam and Eve by Satan, who appeared in the form of a talking serpent.  Eve, being deceived, ate of the fruit and gave of it to Adam, who also ate of it.  Immediately their eyes were opened, and for the first time they experienced the feelings of guilt and shame.  These same feelings have plagued man since that day.

In this book I will show that the descendants of Adam and Eve through Noah, his sons, and their wives can be shown to account for all the variations which can be found in today’s population.  Based upon this evidence, it is clear that the story of the flood and the Tower of Babel are indeed true.  This being the case, it is reasonable to assume that the creation story of Adam and Eve is also true.  Adam and Eve did exist!  The whole story of human sin and redemption stands!

Chapter 1: The Tools of DNA Testing

When I first enrolled in a local junior college to study engineering way back in 1985, the use of computers in some fields was already quite extensive.  Personal computers were still a relatively new concept, and there were fewer apps in existence.  Most available apps were either business or research oriented.  The field was wide open and there was a lot of money to be made for someone.  I had taken a couple of computer classes in high school and was fascinated enough with computers that I enrolled in an occasional programing class.  After two years, I walked into the advisors’ office and said I would like to change my major to computer science.  He looked through the catalog and compared what I had already taken to the requirements and said I only needed to take Computer Fundamentals, Economics II, and Typing to graduate with an associate’s degree in computer science.  Two of those courses were available in the upcoming summer quarter, but the computer course would not be available till the fall.  Since I had already completed all of the advanced programming courses offered, the teacher suggested substituting a class called Micro Applications for the fundamentals course.  I was allowed to go ahead and march in the graduation ceremony, and received my diploma at the end of the summer session.

Although I never used my programming abilities in an official capacity related to my employment, I never forgot what I learned about computer languages.  Flow charting and the phrase Garbage in, garbage out are tools that are useful in more fields than just computer science.  I studied multiple languages, such as Fortran (Formula Translation), RPG III (Report program generator), and COBOL (common business-oriented language), all of which required compiling before running the program.  It was during the compilation process that the garbage within a program, if there was any, was usually discovered.  A long report of errors would be generated which could easily ruin a programmer’s day, especially if he or she had spent hours in the lab writing and keying the program, only to discover it did not work.  At this point, I would simply look for the syntax errors, which I would correct and then recompile the program, only
