To Hyun Bin and Son Ye Jin

    안녕하세요,

    In all sixteen episodes,

we noticed every little twitch, sigh, stare or curt smile

we perceived the hard work you put refining a scene with your ideas

we discerned your respect for the craft

and we understood that there are a hundred things you do behind the scenes that we never see, but we ultimately feel as we watch the show

And it felt great watching you.

The best and most beautiful things in the world cannot be seen or even touched - they must be felt with the heart.

    Preface

This book came about when I realized it is a futile exercise to try moving on from Crash Landing On You (CLOY), and I have many things to say about it.

My family was buzzing about CLOY, a Korean drama that just finished its season airing mid-February. It was Friday night, and I thought to take a break from reviewing for a national exam. As I never watched Korean dramas, I checked out CLOY’s finale to see if it was, at least, having an exciting ending. That was a mistake. I didn’t know what came over me, but I was completely hooked. I started watching from the first episode, and in 1 ½ days, I finished the whole series. I was elated.

There was a void left after watching the series. I cannot fully explain what was it exactly, just that it left me hanging. I fell under the spell of Captain Ri. I googled Hyun Bin’s other works, but I still didn’t have enough will to watch other series. It was psychologically and emotionally paralyzing. The only thing possible was to replay the series. And so I did, and it lasted for a month. After a month of CLOY replays, I finally allowed myself to watch other Hyun Bin works every other day as an alternate. I still watch the whole series once a week to this day, and I don’t see that habit is going to change at all. I read a lot of reviews, and I was not alone in my experience.

It was undoubtedly addicting but wonderfully. It is one of those things that lift one’s spirit and treat you to everything warm and beautiful.

Thus, writing this book is an attempt to cherish the beauty that I’ve experienced, just by expressing how wonderful it was. It is not every day that one stumbles upon a masterpiece, so this is my way to celebrate it.

    Episode 1

From somewhere a sound I hear

A shouting voice that is near

She hangs from a tree above

    A woman in purple clad

    She is talking to someone

But there’s no one I can see

    Desperate for an answer

Still no one seems to hear her

    Finally, you look at me

I point the gun to the tree

The password give it to me

With it I can let you be

But you don’t seem to know it

So come down now I dare ask

But you panicked and lost grasp

Next thing, I just lost my breath

    As you crash on me
