**********
It is Monday morning, and Lee and Pat are getting ready to go to school. They are both very happy. Lee is happy because his daddy said he will take Lee to a computer shop later this week. Lee was very pleased to hear that. Lee really hopes his daddy will buy him a computer.
––––––––
Pat is happy because it is her birthday this week. She hopes she will get a lot of nice presents for her birthday. Pat’s birthday is on Wednesday, so she will have to wait another two days. On Wednesday, Pat will be nine years old.
This morning at school, Pat will ask her friends to come to her house on Wednesday afternoon. She hopes all her friends will come. On Wednesday, everybody will say Happy Birthday
to Pat, and some people will give her presents.
––––––––
Now, Lee is ready to go to school. This week, he has all new clothes to go to school in. He has a new shirt, new shorts and new shoes. Lee is very pleased with his new clothes. He wants to go to school quickly so he can show his new clothes to his friends. He hopes his friends will like his new clothes.
––––––––
Pat is not ready to go to school yet. She is still in the bathroom. Because Lee has to wait for Pat, he can’t go to school yet. He has to wait until Pat is ready. Lee always has to wait for Pat. Pat always takes a long time to get ready, and she always takes a long time in the bathroom.
––––––––
Lee knows his sister’s birthday is on Wednesday, and he already has a present to give her. He bought it last week, but he didn’t tell Pat about it. Pat will have to wait until Wednesday to see all her birthday presents. Lee hopes Pat will be very pleased with the present he has bought for her. Lee knows the things Pat likes, so it was not too difficult for him to find a good present for her.
––––––––
Daddy is getting the car ready. This morning, he will drive the children to school. It is very cold outside this morning, so Daddy doesn’t want the children to walk to school like they usually do. He knows it takes a long time for them to walk to school, and he doesn’t want them to get too cold.
––––––––
Now, Lee is already in the car. He is still waiting for his sister. He wants to go to school right now, but he can’t. He has to wait for Pat. Lee is not very pleased with Pat this morning.
**********
Daddy and Lee are speaking in the car.
Daddy
Good morning, Lee. Is Pat ready yet? It’s nearly time to go.
––––––––
Lee
No, she isn’t ready yet. She’s still in the bathroom. Why does she always take so long in the bathroom?
––––––––
Daddy
I don’t know. I don’t know what she does in there. Do you know, Lee? It’s your sister’s birthday this week.
––––––––
Lee
Yes, I know. I have a nice present for her already. I bought it last week.
––––––––
Daddy
Oh, I’m pleased to hear that. I like it when you are kind to your sister.
––––––––
Lee
I know you do, but it’s difficult sometimes. At school, Pat doesn’t like to play with me and my friends.
––––––––
Daddy
Oh, why is that?
––––––––
Lee
She doesn’t like my friends, and she doesn’t like the games we play.
––––––––
Daddy
Oh, I see. Well, girls don’t usually like boys’ games, do they?
––––––––
Lee
No, they don’t. Why is that? Do you know?
––––––––
Daddy
Well, boys and girls are interested in different things. Boys and girls are not the same.
––––––––
Lee
Oh, you’re right about that. In the morning, I get ready very quickly, but Pat always takes a really, really long time. Is that because she’s a girl?
––––––––
Daddy
Oh, I don’t really know, Lee. Oh, look! Here’s Pat now. Now Lee, please remember, be nice to your sister!
––––––––
Lee
All right. I’ll be nice to her this week because it’s her birthday this week.
––––––––
Daddy
Good. Mommy and I will be very pleased if you can do that. But what about next week? I hope you will be nice to Pat next week, too. I want you to be nice to your sister all the time.
––––––––
Lee
Be nice to her all the time? I don’t know about that. I’ll have to think about that.

This morning, all the children are in the classroom. They are sitting quietly and listening to their teacher. The teacher is telling them what they will do today.
––––––––
First, the teacher told the children to sit down. Then, she asked them to stop talking and be quiet. She said, Please be quiet. Good! Now, I hope everybody is listening to me.
The children had to be quiet because the teacher wanted to tell them about a song she wants them to sing. This is the song people sing when it is someone’s birthday.
––––––––
Lee is listening to the teacher very carefully. He wants to learn how to sing this song. He wants to learn how to sing this song because this week it is his sister’s birthday.
––––––––
Tom is listening carefully, too. He wants to learn the birthday song so he can sing it to Pat on Wednesday. He will sing it with the other children before they give Pat their presents.
––––––––
This song is not so difficult to learn. It is very easy so the children can learn it quickly. There are not many words in the song, and it is very easy to sing. The song is called, ‘Happy Birthday’, and it goes like this:

Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday to you,
Happy birthday, happy birthday,
Happy birthday to you.
––––––––
Now, all the children in Lee and Tom’s class can sing the birthday
