About this ebook
‘Hallucinogenic, electric and sharp, Boy Parts is a whirlwind exploration of gender, class and power.’
– Jessica Andrews
Irina obsessively takes explicit photographs of the average-looking men she persuades to model for her, scouted from the streets of Newcastle.
Placed on sabbatical from her dead-end bar job, she is offered an exhibition at a fashionable London gallery, promising to revive her career in the art world and offering an escape from her rut of drugs, alcohol, and extreme cinema. The news triggers a self-destructive tailspin, centred around Irina’s relationship with her obsessive best-friend, and a shy young man from her local supermarket who has attracted her attention….
Boy Parts is the incendiary debut novel from Eliza Clark, a pitch-black comedy both shocking and hilarious, fearlessly exploring the taboo regions of sexuality and gender roles in the twenty-first century.

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Disturbing in all the right ways. This story follows a narcissistic sociopath of an artist who continues to push the boundaries of everyone around her and eventually, her own.
- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5What a terrible, awful, excellent little book. Engrossing. Also just gross.
- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Jarring, disturbing, but incredibly loud about treatment of women. I couldn't stop reading it.

- Rating: 4 out of 5 stars4/5wow I'm so glad I went into this without knowing anything about the plot. This was a wild ride and I am always here for an unhinged girly. I was genuinely surprised by this book and that rarely happens anymore.
also my favorite quote in the book bc I think this is so funny.
I watch the young white people dance badly to the bloated old racist’s music while I wait to get served. This is a white-as-fuck club, and I like… I know I’m white, but there’s just a lot of white people White People-ing in a very small area, like it’s just some very, very densely packed mayo, you know? Densely packed mayo, jiggling about, doesn’t know what to do with its feet, undulating loosely, barely in time to the rhythm"1 person found this helpful

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Sort of trippy, but with some kind of a central idea. I don't know if this novel wanted to be American Psycho while growing up, but it didn't get there, and that's good. Ambivalent towards it, hence 3 stars.

- Rating: 3 out of 5 stars3/5Nice to kill some time, but first it transmits a fat phobia vibe, a bit racist and seems like the author has a problem with females at some point that I actually feel bad of how mean and offensive she is either her supposedly best friend and in not even one part of the book is there a woman that she considers close to beautiful, but all the way goes to make everyone flawed except her again supposedly Amazonian self

- Rating: 5 out of 5 stars5/5Eliza Clarke made the news around the launch of Boy Parts (Influx Press) this summer with the quote: “I'm from Newcastle and working class. To publishers, I'm diverse…”. In her 26 years Eliza has worked for Mslexia magazine in her native Newcastle, received a grant from New Writing North to develop her creative writing, and studied at Chelsea College of Art in London. This her first novel, and what an entertaining, brassy ride it is! Its main figure is Irina who asks boys she meets to model for her as she takes their explicit and taboo photographs in the hope of constructing a gallery project which could be the making of her but is always likely to be dynamited by her own actions. Irina is massively flawed and self-defeating but she’s perversely engaging, definitely alternative and never boring. The dedication is “For my mother and father. Please don’t read this.” which gives you a clue as to its edginess, but this is also a confident and punchy debut novel and Eliza Clark is one to watch.
