While writing is almost a general skill inherent to everyone, there is a need for the special skill of use of words, correct grammar usage, beauty, and exquisite style of writing. Many people often throw around the phrase, I am a freelancer.
If you ask someone who writes for his/her school's magazine, you may be surprised they may tell you they are a freelancer. Though the word is very common and often used flippantly, many don't really understand what the term freelancing really means and how it applies.
Freelancing is a contract-based career in which the individual uses his or her expertise and experience to provide services to a variety of customers, instead of being hired into an organization. Simply put, when you use your skills, education, and experience to work with multiple clients and take on different assignments without committing to a single employer, this is what freelancing is.
Note that, for it to qualify as freelancing, it has to generate income. The fact that it is called free
doesn't mean you work for charity. The amount of assignments or roles you may take literally comes down to your ability to perform on them as they ask.
Freelancing typically includes jobs (the so-called gigs) that allow you to work from home. Yet it doesn’t equate much as freelancing when you get a work-from-home job.
Freelancing doesn’t necessarily mean you are going to be working from home. You may need to work at the office of your employer too, depending on the type of job and the specifications of the employer.
Working from home includes a relationship between you and a single employer that offers you a paycheck, but this is not synonymous with freelancing. Like I mentioned earlier, a freelancer
