Purpose
If you are a recording musician / songwriter, filmmaker, web designer, YouTube creator, podcaster, video game designer, or multimedia artist, you can never have enough resources when it comes to audio. That means that there is something in this guide for you!
If you have visited the website: Triple A Dude Blogspot, you'll know what to expect. Triple A Dude was originally created to be a resource for news and techniques pertaining to audio, animation and art (hence the Triple A's
). This guide focuses on audio resources and is the kind of guide I wish had back in the day.
As a student at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, we learned film and audio production the old fashion way; with Nagra reel to reel recorders, microphones, Arri cameras, clapsticks for sync, mag stock transfers, and editing on a Moviola / Steenbeck. Mind you this was pre-digital era. We had to glean whatever we needed from our instructors, the books that were available and the trade magazines we could get our hands on.
Working as a professional after graduating, technology went through major changes as MIDI became a prominent force along with hardware-based sequencers and sound modules, which made sound creation more versatile. Digital audio sweetened the deal by making mixing and editing easier and non-destructive.
Computers are powerful and fast enough now to allow the use of virtual instruments & effects, editing, mixing and mastering all in a laptop / desktop or tablet environment. We also have access now to a vast wealth of knowledge 24 / 7 on the internet on any topic whatsoever, if we know what to look for. So why not take advantage of all the technology and resources you have available to you.
Use of this guide
Use the table of contents which are alphabetical to get directly where you want to go. Peruse the categories and see what strikes you. Content with overlap is noted at the top of each category and additional links are provided in other categories. Don't forget to check out the bonus section in front, the DIY and miscellaneous sections also for some real interesting gems.
Seeing the changes both in industry and as a teacher, with technology going from hardware to software and cloud, is
