Putting on a smile really works – in fact, according to one report* , 41% of people felt their smile was connected to their emotional health. ‘If you can bounce into a room with a smile, people echo that – it’s a struggle not to smile back,’ says Hannah Moore, founder of teeth-care brand, L.A. Pacific. ‘Even when you’re wearing a face mask you can tell if someone’s smiling because it glistens through their eyes.’

When someone is self-conscious about their teeth, however, they put their hands over their mouth, they mumble, they don’t smile. And the ‘Zoom boom’ could be the key driver in why cosmetic dentists are experiencing a rise in interest.

‘Most of us have been spending so much time on virtual calls, constantly looking at our faces and teeth, making us more aware of our imperfections,’ says cosmetic dental surgeon Dr Nina Bal. Current statistics reveal there was a 12% increase in cosmetic dentistry in 2020 and the global market is predicted to grow 5%
