EXPERIMENT 1: MOMENT OF FORCE

SAFETY / PRECAUTION 1. Do not attempt to rotate the beam when conducting the experiment. 2. Be careful when putting the dead weights.

PRE-EXPERIMENT PROCEDURE 1. Read the safety instruction given before conducting the experiment. 2. Read and understand the theory before lab session. 3. Prepare the accessories needed for the experiment.

OBJECTIVE To investigate the lever principle. To acknowledge the fundamental principle of the equilibrium of moments.

ACCESSORIES

1. LS-12 132 Simple Moment Apparatus 2. 3 weight hangers 3. 3 set of weights 4. Instruction manual

DETERMINING THE BALANCE POINT

SETUP 1: 1. Initially, load 200 gm onto the hanger at 100 mm on the left. 2. Then, achieve balance by load 100 gm somewhere on the opposite side. 3. Determine the position of the equilibrant and weights used. 4. And, check whether it is equilibrium or non equilibrium. 5. After results taken, remove all the loads. 6. Compare the calculated and experimental values of the moment arm. 7. Repeat the procedure by using different load and distance of position TABLE OF RESULTS

Note: Add the mass of the scale indicator block (48gm) to the load applied as well while performing the calculations.

CONCLUSION Perform moment calculation and prove with the result obtained from experiment.
