    Australian police have used force to end a student protest against job and budget cuts in the University of Sydney.
    The clashes erupted after hundreds of students and staff marched down Sydney's City Road and into the university to protest job and budget cuts. The university had announced plans to slash academic salaries and administrative costs to save $63 million for building and infrastructure. The rally, which was organized by the National Tertiary Education Union, ended outside the building of the university's governing council Monday afternoon. Police then tried to scatter the protesters who had planned a sit-in outside the building and arrested several students. One police officer and several students were injured during the clashes. Education Action Group spokeswoman Freya Bundey said the protest turned violent after the police forces tried to break up the peaceful sitin. The police brutally broke that up.
