To set custom environment variable: echo setenv REPLACE_WITH_VAR REPLACE_WITH_VALUE >> ~/.launchd.conf echo setenv REPLACE_WITH_VAR REPLACE_WITH_VALUE | launchctl This will keep this r on logout and restart To add some path to PATH variable in OS X, add it to either /private/etc/paths Or create new file in /private/etc/paths.d and add path itself (no quotes) to t hat file Or another way, may not work: create ~/.bash_profile file and add there the path with name in format: export ANDROID_SDK=/Applications/Android/SDK/ No spaces near equals sign ==================THIS IS THE WAY=============================: For global vars: Go to /etc/paths.d create new file and add list of paths that want to add to sys tem wide PATH varaible Then go to /etc/launchd.conf and add: setenv PATH_NAME PATH_VALUE to have this p ath with a specific name
