Batch of 2012

Oracle (Programming, Open to all)

Round 1: Written Exam: Most of the questions touched topics form programming like: Data Structure LIFO FIFO concept Binary tree

*Refer to Balagurusamy book

Round 2: Group Discussion: Not conducted Round 3: Personal Interview: was of 3 rounds having 2 technical type and 1 HR PI. Technical PI questions were mainly from Data structure.

Wipro (Programming, Open to all)

The company follows the Star Hiring Program (Management centric) which basically comprises of 3 rounds. Round 1: Case Study(Written, Online): Relating to profit maximization (One of

the case studies this year was: Youre given a certain amount of money and using this money youre supposed to organise an event, saving and making as much money as you can) Round 2: Group Discussions (One of the topics this year was Should government institutions be privatised to increase their standards?)
Round 3: Personal Interview: Comprised of Behavioural and H.R. interview (Candidates were asked in detail about their interests and hobbies, Also asked about the then current financial and economical situation in Europe) *Refer to

H.R. Interview Question book

FuturesFirst

(Finance)

Round 1: Written Aptitude paper consisting of 40 questions to be done in 20 minutes (Maths tricks quite useful)

Round 2: HR interview relating to future plans, enquiries such as how will the
candidate add value to the company, why does he prefer a non-core job over a core one, and so on. Candidates were questioned on why is a job at FuturesFirst important to them? The Interviewers checked the candidates on confidence, persistence, ability to fight back, analytical skills (Multiply two 3 digit numbers in 30 seconds)

ZS Associates

(Analyst [BOA, BTA, BAA] 3 Profiles, Open to All)

The Recruitment programme comprised of five rounds. Round 1: Written Test (the company had allowed a maximum of 250 students to take the written test) Comprised of Maths, English and Aptitude questions. 48 students were selected. Round 2: Group Discussion, one of the topics was Is armed resistance the only way to end dictatorship? The 48 candidates were divided into 2 groups, and one of the groups was selected. This was the group which succeeded in reaching a common consensus. Round 3: Case Study, Comprised of a problem of workforce optimisation.

Candidates were asked to point out errors made by sales representatives in sales figures.
Round 4: HR interview, Relating to future plans, enquiries such as how will the candidates add value to the company, why does he prefer a non-core job over a core job. A given candidate had stated Politics as one of his topics of interest, and the interviewer proceeded to discuss current politics with him for about 2530 minutes. Interviews lasted for around 45 minutes. Comprised of guess estimation problems (Interviewee was asked to guess the total number of traffic lights in New Delhi, No. of Petrol pumps in Varanasi, No. of Mango trees in B.H.U, etc ) Round 5: Principal Interview: Asked about teamwork experience during intern. Posed in situ problems.

Samsung Engineering

(Designing, Chemical Core)

The Recruitment programme consisted of 1 Written and 2 rounds of Personal Interviews

Round 1: Included a 2 hour Aptitude + Technical Test: Purely conceptual paper. Questions relating to Types and concepts of Pumps Thermodynamics (Questions related to concepts of cycles * Refer to P.K. Nag)

Concepts of Distillation Fluid Dynamics

Round 2&3: Included a Technical and a HR Interview. The Technical Interview circled around topics like: Thermodynamics (Important: Thermodynamic Cycles) Internship discussed in great depth *Not only what you learnt but how

you affected the company?! Concepts of Distillation and All about distillation towers Concept of Refineries

Reliance (Refineries, Chemical Core)

The Recruitment comprised of 3 rounds: Round 1: Written (Very difficult, purely conceptual paper), Core knowledge was tested in depth, numericals from Fluid Dynamics, Heat and Mass Transfer. Round 2: Technical Interview, Again core knowledge was tested in depth. Questions relating to internship. Main topics asked under core knowledge 1. Petroleum (Process flow diagrams, Refining, Distillation, Octane number, Iso-Octane numbers, Structures of Organic compounds) 2. Heat Transfer 3. Mass transfer (Extraction) 4. Concepts of Distillation and Distillation towers ( Vacuum and Atmospheric Distillation Units) 5. Dimensionless numbers 6. Pumps and Other Equipments like Flow meters, Agitators, Heat Exchangers and Evaporators and Parts like Valves and Joints. 7. Thermodynamic cycles (Rankine Cycle, Refrigeration cycles) 8. Random Questions : Fire Triangle, Flammability limits, Polymers (High Density, Low Density), Boiler Feed Water, Demineralised Water Round 3: HR Interview, Questions about parents, why would one want to join Reliance? Interests, Hobbies, Future Plans, Further Studies? (Always show that presently youre only looking at a job at RIL and no further studies), Team work, Ability to convince others.

Hindustan Unilever (Business Leadership Trainee, Chemical

Core)
Round 1: Case Study, took place in the form of a G.D. The strategy of a hypothetical company was discussed which was widely distributed all over

India and the board of directors wanted it to concentrate its operations in certain metropolitan cities. Round 2: Personal Interview, Questions were asked testing the in-depth knowledge gained during intern. Core knowledge tested mainly comprised of Fluid Flow Operations. Chapters 1-9 of McCabe. Topics to keep in mind : 1. Heat Transfer Heat exchangers, LMTD 2. Mass Transfer Evaporators, Extraction, Distillation, etc 3. Fluid Dynamics Pumps, Dimensionless numbers, Turbulent flow, Equations, All in all fluid dynamics is to be done in detail.
