SE 591 1 Observation and Reflection Kathleen Samulski

Reflection
On Thursday, July 19, I spent 2 hours observing teacher, Tina Voss. The lesson took place at the Lincoln Park Middle School, in Lincoln Park, Michigan. The students with ASD were learning in a self-contained ASD Extended School Year (ESY) setting. The students were high school students with ASD. The lesson began with Mrs. Voss reading A River Runs Wild. Mrs. Voss stressed the impact that we, as individuals, can have on the environment. She then initiated an interactive activity where the students differentiated whether or not putting certain items in the water is negative or positive. After the social studies lesson, the students rotated among the organized work stations. The classroom was very organized with authentic learning. The classroom management was excellent. The lesson addressed many of the competencies. Competency 2, the implementation or appropriate, effective instruction for students with ASD was implemented. So was competency 6, effective behavior management. Competencies 5 and 6 were also addressed with organization and behavior management.
