entry. The final journal should be approximately two pages per week, double spaced. Include a daily general description of what went on at your observation site during each visit. In addition, were there any unusual circumstances or dilemmas that occurred? How were these handled? (1st page of each entry). The 2nd page of each journal entry should include a response to one of the 11 questions below. By the end of your journal, you should have answered all of the questions. Ponder these questions as you journal throughout the semester and respond accordingly a. As you spend more time at your site, critically analyze how well the professional handles the diverse challenges presented. How effective is the professional? What characteristics does the professional possess that enables him/her to be effective in this role? b. Now engage in self-reflection about your own personal attributes. What is it about you that would enable you to be effective in this kind of role? Do not give consideration at this point to the competencies you have acquired, but think about who you are as a person. Is this a good match with your God-given gifts? What are those? c. Analyze what kind of working environment you think you might like. Does this fit? What is it about this environment that suits your personality? e. Many choose career paths that change a number of times over the course of a lifespan and others can see themselves in one profession for many years. While the function might be the same, the form can change over time. What other forms might be a good match for you. Listen to Duane Grobman - Mustard Seed Foundation chapel talk in the chapel archives for Fall 2005 for help with this question http://www.westmont.edu/_offices/campus_pastor/chapel/archive/chapel_talks_fal_2 005.html f. Include some information from your Internet research. Dont attach the information retrieved, simply summarize what you learned. g. Many internship experiences (such as athletic training) include a care giving element. If this applies to your situation, what have you learned about care giving from this experience? What new methods were needed or learned? How are you better able to provide care giving now than earlier encounters when you were less experienced? What are the emotional responses you enjoyed or disliked while giving care? How did others respond to your care? What psychological principles come into play as you administer care to others? h. Are there points of integration between your faith and the service you are providing? i. Any other personal insights or questions stimulated from your observation? j. Two pages: Research one topic related to your internship and summarize here. For example, if you were observing an occupational therapist, you might research how the brain reorganizes after a stroke. If you were observing a PA, you might research something such as the technique for a common medical procedure. Use this opportunity to add to your knowledge base. Use a minimum of two resources, being careful to cite sources appropriately. Failure to do so is plagiarism and will result in a failing grade. Make sure your entire journal does not reflect any instances of plagiarism. k. Resume. Have someone from the Office of Life Planning sign off on your draft. Include the draft with signature here and post the final copy on your website. l. Post pictures of you on the job at your internship site on weebly. m. Conclude by attaching your Learning Plan with a summary of how well your achieved your stated goals. Be specific!
