Grant Ewing 8/9/11 American Literature Charity Clarke Words: 160

Essay #5 The contemporary literature of America has continued much of what the Modern period started. The past sixty-odd years of American History has seen its fair share of war, and injustice, further developing the disillusionment, and pessimism of deep artistic minds. In fact, many contemporary authors were heavily influenced by the previous generation's storytelling, style, plot progression, and themes. Also signature of contemporary authors is enthusiastic experimentation both in writing and in substance abuse. The literature produced was for the most part of high literary caliber in delivery and style. However the explicit presentation of the immoral behavior of the characters still creates hesitation among the American culture still hesitant to abandon previous conceptions of God, and, or morality. The popular authors and playwrights in recent years tended not to have such qualms. Topics of death, deception, rape, murder, injustice, racism, and the general depravity of man is both exemplified and explored in a host of different lifestyles, stories, dramatic productions, and poetic allegories.
