Tech I Semester Regular Examinations, INDUSTRIAL INSTRUMENTATION (Electronics & Instrumentation Engineering)
Time: 3 hours Answer any FIVE Questions All Questions carry equal marks Max Marks: 80

(a) What are the methods of measuring small bore diameter? Explain with neat

sketches? (b) What are sine bars? How sine bars are used for measurement of internal & External angles, discuss in detail. 2 (a) Explain the measurement of force using gyroscopic transducer. Derive its transfer Function (b) LVDT is used in an accelerometer to measure seismic mass displacement. The LVDT and signal conditioning outputs are 0.31mV/mm, with _ 20mm cone displacement. The spring constant is 240N/m and the cone mass is 0.05kg. Find: i) Relation between acceleration in m/s2 and the output voltage. ii) Maximum acceleration measurable and iii) Natural frequency. (a) Explain in detail the principle and operation of torque measurement by using an optical method with a figure. (b) Describe how pendulum scale is used for measurement of force and weight. (a) Draw a neat sketch and explain the principle & operation of a Mc Leod gauge used for vacuum pressure measurement (b) A horizontal venturi tube at a seawater desalinization plant is sized to produce 11 inches of mercury column (11 Hg) while flowing 6,000 gallons per minute of sea water (at a density of 1.025 grams per cubic centimeter). Calculate the differential pressure produced by this same venturi tube at a flow rate of 4,250 GPM, and at a lighter density of 1.01 g/cm3.Assuming a water density of 1.03 g/cm3 and a measured differential pressure of 3.1 PSID, calculate the volumetric flow rate through the venturi tube. (a) Explain the general types of area meters used for flow measurement and write short notes on Rotameters. (b) Calculate the induced EMF in an electromagnetic flow meter due to the flow of a conductive fluid in a pipe with inner diameter of 2.75 cm. The flux density B= 60 Weber/m2. and volume flow rate Q=2500 cm3/min. (a) Explain the measurement of density by Strain Gauge load cell method
