A Case of Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumour

A 38 year old patient presented with a swelling over the Right side temporoparietal region since 2 years, gradually progressive in nature, and tenderness over the swelling since 25 days. Initially, Biopsy was taken from the swelling and sent for HPE. Initial HPE result came as Dermatofibrosarcoma. CT scan done on 16.05.2012 shows soft tissue neoplasm with bony erosion and dural enhancement in Right temporoparietal region. Patient was referred to Neurosurgery for surgical excision of scalp tumour. Operation was done on 08.06.2012 under General anaesthesia. Lesion was showing areas of apparent encapsulation, but in other places, such as part of temporalis muscle region, it was invading into deeper structures, leading into skull erosion. Lesion was excised and sent for HPE. HPE result of lesion was shown to be Malignant Peripheral Nerve Sheath Tumour after Reticulin staining and Immunohistochemistry staining.
