Advent Liturgy Week One Theme: Hope Student (as slides are shown) Good ________________ and welcome

e to our first Advent liturgy.

During Advent, we light 4 candles and reflect each week on the miracle of the gift of Jesus to the world. We pray in hope for the coming of Jesus to the world. We celebrate the story of Jesus birth. We remember the miracle of Gods son coming to humanity. In the Old Testament, a prophet named Isaiah wrote about the coming of the messiah. Isaiah speaks of peace when the Son of god comes to the world. The lion will lie down with the lamb. The gospel tells us about the events before the birth of Jesus. Mary is visited by the angel Gabriel who tells her that she is going to be a mother. We learn that Mary visited her cousin, Elizabeth. Elizabeth was also expecting a baby. Her baby was John the Baptist. He was jumping up and down inside his mother when Mary arrived. Joseph is told in a dream that he should take Mary as his wife. We read about a voice crying out in the desert. This is John the Baptist telling us to make ourselves ready for the coming of the Lord. Let us prepare for the birth of our Saviour by bringing his kindness, peace, and love to all we meet.

SONG Turn page to LIGHT THE ADVENT CANDLE When song is done turn to Word of the Lord page Leader: This is the first week of Advent, the time when the Church begins its new year. For the next four weeks we will prepare our hearts to celebrate Christmas and to welcome Jesus into our lives. This week, we remember that Jesus came to live among us over 2000 years ago and we ponder his promise to return again. Let us listen attentively to the Word of God.

First Reading: Isaiah chapter 25: verses 6-10

Reader: A reading from the prophet Isaiah.

On this mountain the LORD of hosts will make for all peoples a feast of rich food, a feast of well-matured wines, of rich food filled with marrow, of well-matured wines strained clear. And he will destroy on this mountain the shroud that is cast over all peoples, the sheet that is spread over all nations; he will swallow up death for ever. Then the Lord GOD will wipe away the tears from all faces, and the disgrace of his people he will take away from all the earth, for the LORD has spoken. It will be said on that day, Lo, this is our God; we have waited for him, so that he might save us. This is the LORD for whom we have waited; let us be glad and rejoice in his salvation. For the hand of the LORD will rest on this mountain. The Word of the Lord. ALL- Thanks be to God
