PRINCIPLE OF CRYOSURGERY : Cryosurgery is the controlled destruction of disseased tissue by freezing application. The fibrous structure will remain intact. Phase 1 : Immediate Effect During the immediate effect, the cells are destroyed by : - Dehydration with a concentration of toxic solutes - Formation of ice crystals at the intra-and extracellular level - Protein denaturation - Direct thermal shock Phase 2 : Delayed Phase During the delayed phase, cell destruction is due to vascular stasis causing : - Thrombosis - Ischemia - Devitalization of cells Phase 3 : Late Phase A late phase or immunological response induced by freezing may occur (formation of antibodies directed against tumor cells affected). The absence of scar, good patient tolerance and ease of implementation of cryosurgery through CryOmega make it the convenient method in many situations.
