UPDATE - Fatal collision involving police officer On behalf of the Surrey RCMP, I want to provide the public with

an update on the investigation into the motor vehicle collision that took the life of Constable Adrian Oliver on November 13, 2012.

The truck driver involved in the collision has been provided updates and, although the investigation is ongoing, we also want to inform the public of developments to this point. The preliminary investigation indicates, by way of GPS and video evidence, that Cst. OLIVER was attempting to locate a recently stolen pickup truck. During the course of those efforts, in the moments prior to the collision, he was operating his police vehicle in excess of the posted speed limit, without his emergency equipment activated. In an effort to more clearly establish what may have been occurring just prior to this collision, the Surrey RCMP Criminal Collision Investigation Team, with independent, external oversight by the Vancouver Police Department, has conduct of the investigation. As I wish to respect the ongoing investigative process, I can provide no additional information at this time.
