Rajesh Punjabi 03812304 GR616 - Influences Lucas de Groot Lucas de Groot was born in Noordwijkerhout in The Netherlands.

He attended the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague, The Netherlands from 1982 to 1987 under the guidance of Gerrit Noordzij. From 1989 to 1993 he worked for the design agency BRS Premsela Vonk in Amsterdam before moving to Germany. Now known as Luc(as) de Groot he became the typographic director at MetaDesign in 1993. At MetaDesign Luc(as) worked on corporate identities including logos and magazines. Luc(as) reworked the typeface FF Meta, originally designed by Erik Spiekermann, and created MetaPlus. In 1994, the largest digital type family was released entitled Thesis. Luc(as) de Groot left MetaDesign in 1997 to start FontFabrik, a firm specializing in the design of typefaces and logos. LucasFonts was established to market and moderate the distributions of the Luc(as) de Groots typeface designs. Luc(as) continues to work in the corporate and non-profit sectors for clients such as Sun Microsystems, Heineken, and Siemens. Luc(as) is responsible for the design of typefaces Calibri and Consolas, the previous and current standard font for Microsoft Word. He also worked on newspapers and magazines including Der Spiegel and die tageszeitung in Germany. The typeface FolhaSerif for the Brazilian newspaper Folha. Currently De Groot teaches at the Design Faculty of the University of Applied Sciences in Potsdam, Germany.
