Kids' Room Kids' room should be constructed in the northwest corner of the house. The colour scheme should be mild. The study desk should be placed in such a manner that the child faces eastern, northern or northeastern corner while studying. The computer should be placed in the southwest corner. Kitchen The ideal location of the kitchen is the southeast corner of the house, with northwest being the second best option. Electrical items such as microwaves, juicers and mixers should be placed in the southeast corner of the kitchen. The refrigerator should be in the northwest, southeast, south or west. Directional Alignment

The directional axis of the plot should be properly aligned with the axis of the earth's magnetic field. Boundaries AC & BD should be parallel to a north-south axis. While boundaries AB & CD should be in an East-West alignment. For otherwise, such land will remain averse to overall growth, peace & happiness of those that shall inhabit it.

Slope Of The Land Surface

The surface should be elevated towards the southern and western sides and should be lower in northern and eastern sides for overall growth and prosperity. The Land should be elevated towards south and west sides and it should be lower in NORTH and EAST sides for over all growth and happiness. If the land is-HIGH IN NORTH OR EAST LOW IN SOUTH-EAST LOW IN SOUTH LOW IN SOUTH-WEST LOW IN WEST LOW IN NORTH-WEST LOW IN CENTRE, It can have adverse effects.

Impact of Gates At Various Locations

Eastern Side : The third and fourth gate promote prosperity. Southern Side : The twelfth gate enhances growth. Western Side : The twentieth and twenty-first gates stimulate financial growth. Brahmasthan (Central Zone of the Building)

Should be free from any obstruction in the form of a wall, pillar and beam. There should not be any fixture, toilet, lift or staircase etc. in this area as shown in the Figures (a) and (b)

The Staircase

Should be in the western or northern side of the building. Turnings should be in the clockwise direction. On reaching the upper floor, the facing should be towards south or east.

Inner Planning of a House

The oven should ideally be in the south-east zone. Toilets should not be in the north-eastern, central and south-western zones. The most south-western location is the ideal position for your master bedroom. Position the boy's room in the northern or eastern side while the girl's and guest room are to be in the north-western parts. Place the beds in southerly or easterly direction.

The provisions shown in the side diagram are as per the living style in the ancient times. However considering the requirements of the modern days it can be rearranged based on the following guide lines 1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7. Kitchen fire should be in the South -East and should never be at the North-East, Centre and the south west zones. Inner Planning of an Office

The shape of the cabin should be a regular square or a perfect rectangle. The opening for the door should be free from any obstacle. Doors should open inwards while entering a cabin. The master chamber should either be in the south-west or nearest to south- west direction. Chambers of directors / managers / senior staff should be in the southern & western zones. While that of the junior staff should be in the north-west, north, north-east, east and south-east. Pantry and toilets must be in north-eastern, central & south-western sections.

While making the interior of an office the following guidelines have to kept in mind. 1. 2. 3. 4. Heavy plant and machinery should be installed in the south-western, southern & western parts. Light weight and auxillary machines should be in the northern & eastern zones. Install boiler, AC panels, generator, heater, dryer, oven, furnace etc. in the north-west & east sections. Toilets should be placed in the north-east, centre or south-west. Make sure not to place spare parts stores in the north-west, centre & south-east. Rest rooms for labour should be in the northern & eastern zones.

Vastu Tips

A plot with all four corners as 90 degrees to each other is always better than one having oblique or skewed sides. A plot with at least two sides open to a park or road should be preferred rather than one closed from all sides. The open space left in North and East should be more than South and West. A house should be designed in such a way so that there is maximum entry of sunlight and proper cross ventilation. The maximum construction should be done in South, West and South-West portion of the plot. A pond or a water body should be placed in North-East corner of the house. A house should ideally be not constructed over a filled up water body, like a well, pond, etc. The hearth or oven must be arranged in Eastern or South-East directions of the house in such a way that the person cooking faces the East. Trees of any kind should not ideally be grown in Eastern, Northern and North-East directions. Only small plants should be grown in North, East and North-East directions. Shadow of a Banyan (peepal) tree should not fall on the house. Pictures of any war scenes, demons, portraits in anger should not be placed in the house. The slope of the property should be from West to East or South to North. The best direction for master bedroom construction is South-West. South-East direction is not right for bedroom purpose. If a bedroom need to be constructed in the North-West direction, then prefer using it as a guest room or as a room for daughters. For constructing children room, West or North is the perfect direction. The children study tables should be placed in the Northern or Eastern corner of the room. The beds should be so placed that sleeping with one's head facing North side of the room be avoided. Green color is recommended to be used for wall painting in the study room as it enhances intelligence. For prayer room, yellow or sandal wall color is just perfect. For placing TV or computer in the living room, South-East corner is just right. For ensuring peace in the house, the main bedroom should be constructed in the South direction. While sleeping, make sure that everyone sleeps with his or her head pointing towards the South corner. North direction should be completely avoided, as it acts as a source of nightmares and disturbed sleep. Avoid placing the divine idols in the bedroom. For constructing the master bedroom, South-West direction is just perfect. Other bedrooms can be constructed on the Eastern or Northern side of the master bedroom. A married couple should not use East direction bedroom. There is no problem if a child uses such a room. Bed can be placed in the South-West corner. It is better to avoid placing the mirror just on the opposite side of the bed especially in children room.

Don't place the furniture sticking to the wall, as it obstructs the flow of positive energy. The study desk should be placed in such a manner that the child faces Eastern, Northern or North-Eastern corner while studying. East is the most appropriate direction, as it paves way for enhanced concentration. Avoid placing the electronic gadgets like TV and Computer in the kids' bedroom. But still if you wish to install one, then for computer, the right place is South-East corner and North-West corner for TV. The North direction is ideal for the construction of a drawing room. Southern and Western corners of the room are perfect for placing the furniture. The perfect place for placing sofa lies in North-West. TV can be kept in the South-East direction while the showcase, cupboards, almirahs in the South-West corner. Seating arrangement for the guests should be done in such a manner that the guests face Southern or Western direction. Center table can be in the shape of square, rectangle or even round. Avoid placing L shape sofa in your drawing room. The ideal location for the construction of dining room is the West portion of the house. Construction should be done in such a manner that the dining room and kitchen both are on the same floor, lying adjacent to each other. Square or rectangle shape dining table is just perfect for the room. Dining table should not be sticking to the wall. If you want to place a fridge in the dining room, then South-East direction would be just apt. If you want to make provision for the fitting of washbasin in your dining room, then the right place would be either Eastern or Northern corner. The ideal place for the location of kitchen is the South-East corner. An alternative choice can be the North-West corner of the house. The ideal location for kitchen are Northeast, mid-north, mid-west, southwest midsouth or the center. Make sure that the cooking platform does not touch Eastern or Northern side wall. The best direction for cooking is facing East, as this direction is considered to be auspicious. No shelf should be placed above the cooking platform. Refrigerator can be placed on the North-West corner in the kitchen. While constructing the kitchen, make adequate provision for cross ventilation. For bathroom construction, the most appropriate location lies in the Eastern portion of the house. As a part of Vaastu remedies for bathroom, it is suggested that the geyser should be placed in the Southeast corner. Drainage system should be in the northeast direction. Therefore, it is advised that the taps and showers should be fixed on the Northern side. As per Vaastu for bathroom, the door should not be in the South-West direction of the bathroom. For keeping the washing machine, the suitable directions are South-East and North-West. Bathtub can be placed on the west side. For parking purpose, North-East side should be used. The drainage system for commercial buildings should be towards the North-East direction.

While constructing the doors, make sure that the main gate is higher than other doors. If you wish to construct a storeroom for the office, then choose Southern or Western portion of the plot for this purpose. Make adequate provision for sunlight and proper cross ventilation system

Vastu For House Structure

The importance of good foundations and structures can never be over stressed. According to Vastu, every good thing springs from the right structure of a building, whether for a house or for an office. Unfortunately, most architects dont recognize Vastu Shastra as a science and completely ignore its principles when constructing buildings. Their ignorance stems from the fact that Vastu is not part of the study material in most architecture schools. However, lately, several universities have recognized the value of applying Vastu for correct orientations and have integrated it in their course curriculum. Things To Keep In Mind When Constructing A House:

The very first brick of a foundation must be laid in the eastern or northern part of the house. When digging the plot one must never start from the west, south or southwest direction. The very first room has to be constructed at southwest side.

Construction of houses on a square or rectangular plot is extremely important and excellent from every aspect. However, if one opts for a rectangular shape, the proportion of the sides must never be more than two ratio one. Bigger sized plots are more favorable, as they tend to bring wealth. But they must not contain cleavages, or cracks. The house must always be open from every side, this means it must never be contiguous to any other building (two houses must never have a common wall). Also, a house must never be crammed between two houses. Plots with triangular shapes are extremely inauspicious. A small plot sandwiched between two bigger plots is inauspicious, and the owner of such a plot can undergo a lot of problem.

Water tanks are important in every house and most houses install tanks random in direction wherever it is suitable. However water tanks have their own place and direction where installation of water resource is consider ideal. Vastu tells some ideal directions to place water resource for better health, wealth and prosperity in house. Water is an important element in Vastu and if its placement is not accordingly then it creates problems for occupants. According to Vastu North-east is the place for water resource but there are some conditions in which water has to be placed such as over-head tank and under-water tank. Both the tanks can be located here in the North direction but under some conditions of working which are:

Underwater tank should be dug in North-east direction while before digging a sump draw an axis marking from North-east to South-west while both the sides right or left are apt for underwater tank. North-east is an important place in home which is held scared due to which it should be left vacant as much as possible and that is why underwater tank is recommended here. Avoid any water source/tank towards North-west or South-east. Over-head tank should be installed in South-west direction only because South is inauspicious corner of house where heavy things can be placed to equate the energies. Overhead tank in this direction balance energies to bring health, prosperity and all-round peace. Avoid over-head tank in North-east as it leads to unnecessary expenses and losses.

Vastu for Well and Tube-Well

Water is one of the significant elements among Panchbhootas that constitute the entire concept of Vastu-Shastra. The placement of well or tube-well in a house should be proper so as to gain profits and over-all prosperity. There are some set of rules involve in Vastu for the location of under-ground well or tube-well and it has been observed that well or tube-well if placed in wrong direction leads to numerous problems in terms of health, wealth and prosperity. Thus it is important to give water its essential space so as to counteract negative energies and making the environment positive. Some problems faced by occupants if well-or tube-well is located in wrong direction are:

Therefore it is best to make well/tube-well in proper location to avoid any kind of mishap or loss. Some ideal directions for water resource are:

However avoid locating underground water resource in South, South-east, South-west or North-west because these directions are inauspicious for under-ground water and only lead to heavy losses.

Vastu for Septic Tank

Septic tanks are often made randomly with no consideration which however causes various problems to occupants. The concept of septic individual tank in house was invented few decades ago and now it is a necessity. The pit for septic is usually dug in the ground which according to Vastu should be done with caution as any discrepancy could lead to negativity thus making the environment polluted. Septic tanks should be made with utmost care as Vastu tells some basic rules regarding construction and proper direction of septic tank in house:

Septic tank should be placed in such a way that it doesnt face the directions like South-east, South-west and North-east. The ideal location for septic tank is North-west. The segregation of septic tank should be in a way that the water goes in eastern side while excretion waste goes in western side. Vastu tells to make length of septic tank in East-West side while breadth in South-North. It should always be constructed to the ground level and must not touch the main wall of house i.e. compound wall. Make sure the drainage pipes in toilet and bathroom have their passage in the West or Northwest. While to the contrary kitchen pipes should have their passage in the East or North. Avoid drainage pipes in Southern portion of house and if it has been made then ensure that their passage should be made in East or North. The main sewage can be located in North, East or West but avoid in South direction.

Vastu for Stairs

Stairs of house or building must conform some norms as per Vastu because oddly made stairs can lead various mishappenings in house related to disease, odd things and losing mental peace. There some rules laid down in Vastu-Shastra as how stair case should construct:

Ideally stairs should be constructed in South. West or Southwest corners to gain good wealth and for inmates health. However, stairs in other corners lead to loss of wealth.

Stairs should be constructed clock i.e. clock wise and anti-clockwise stairs should be avoided. Number of stairs should not be even numbers or zero at unit place such as 10, 20, 30; stairs are good in odd number for instance 3, 9, 11, 13 etc. Avoid stairs in Brahmsthan- Centre of the house which is inauspicious. Main stair should never originate from strong room, kitchen and pooja room. Circular stairs should also be avoided. Stairs arising from South, West or South-west are auspicious and beneficial in terms of financial gain. The starting stair should not be round. Unruly and bad conditioned stairs create mental instability and stress among inmates. Thus stairs should be kept in good condition through repair. Room having staircase in South-west direction is not good for occupant and lead to problems like hypertension, anemia and other complicated disease which are sometimes incurable.

Vastu for Entrance Gate

Entrance of a house explains every thing because this is the gateway from which energies constantly goes in and out. This important gate should be maintained with utmost care while direction should be appropriate to reap rich benefits. Specific directions decide fate of occupants and if unfortunately placed in wrong direction then remedies should be followed by traditional rituals prescribed. All the negative and positive energies surround here and which is why is important to locate main gate in proper direction to maintain well-being and prosperity in house. Entrance of house is best in North and East sides. Entrance gate should be heavier, stronger and bigger than other doors of house. Keep the entrance clutter free and tidy to make the surrounding positive. Entrance should never be dark and ensure that this place is well lit throughout. Avoid keeping garbage or dustbin near the entrance. Main should not make any creaky noise. Main gate should never face intersecting roads. Vastu provide basic tips for the house construction that can be followed at the time of construction even they are also applied during the head hunting of plot. Here are some important and authentic Vastu tips for the house construction:

Before starting the construction some things have to be considered such as shape of plot which is the most important to determine. Irregular shape plot can have bad impact on occupants, so choose regular plot such as square or rectangle. Vastu suggests digging a well in North-east and after that to start the construction. Open space should be given more towards the North and the East and less towards the South and the West. Open space at South-east and North-west should be equal. Avoid planting trees in North-east corner while all other directions are suitable. Heavy trees must be grown towards South, West and South-west side. More windows must be given towards East and North while Southern and Western sides must be avoided for windows and doors. Avoid doors in straight line. Front door must be larger than other doors especially exit door. In the plots Western side must be elevated than Eastern side and Southern must be elevated than North to determine the auspiciousness. 01. Place to keep tame animals, cattle & birds : The North-West of a plot/land is the best side to keep the pet animals, cattle & birds. In a house planning, Bedroom for unmarried girls, Guest room & room for Granary also must be on the same side. If the North-West increases or decreases in area, it affects the health of living beings. Kitchen may be provided in North-West though the first choice for Kitchen is South-East portion of the house. 02. Bedroom & way of sleeping : Ancient sages suggested that the place attached to the room which is towards the North-West side on the North is good to be used as a Bedroom. It is good to lie down on bed keeping one's head on the West side, because the Sun rises in the East, the presiding deity of which is Indra, the Lord of the devatas (Gods). After rising from bed in the morning, if one offers one's salutations, turning towards the East, it amounts to offering salutations to all the Gods. It is also recommended that one may sleep on one's bed putting the head towards the South and look towards the North. The presiding deity is Kuber, the Lord of Wealth. So it goes without saying that one is worshipping Kubera by lying on bed facing North. If one sleeps putting the head on the East and looking towards the West, one offers salutations to Varuna, the presiding deity of the West. The salutations benefit very much one's philosophical thinking,belief and practice. But,under any circumstances one should not sleep putting the head towards the North and looking towards the South, because the presiding deity of the South is Yama, Lord of death. Only the corpse of a person is laid on pyre, putting the head towards the North, facing the South. If one sleeps putting the head towards the North, one may have nightmares and spends sleepless nights. 03. Place for keeping valuable things & Store:The best place for keeping valuable things and ornaments is the central portion on the North, the presiding deity of which is Kubera,Lord of Wealth. It is the place to use as Strong room also. 04. Place for keeping Medicines: Our ancestors suggested that medicines should be kept in the North (towards North-East), because the Sun-rays which have nourishing quality required for human health, fall at dawn, on the medicines and make them powerful to help human beings become hale and healthy. If a few more bedrooms are required in the family, this room may be converted into a bedroom. 05. Room for Worship or Temple : At the Sun-rise the rays of the Sun fall on the NorthEast side of any house. So it was decided that the room for Worship should be on the North-East. If the building is raised on the North-East, the owner of the house/building will have mental worry and becomes dull. Outside, It is advised to plant a Basil (Tulsi) plant and worship it daily. 06. Labour Room : Years ago, Adequate arrangements were made in the house of joint families only for the delivery of pregnant ladies & the labour room used to be constructed on the East in the house. The only reason for this was that the sun rays which give health at dawn were falling on both the mother & the child. But, health science has developed now by leaps and bounds and health centres/nursing homes have been opened for this purpose. If it isn't necessary, this place may be used for a drawing cum living room with no heavy items inside.

07. Bath Room : It is necessary that the water should flow on the North, North-East & East sides. So our ancestors used to construct Bathroom on the East inside the house or on the open space outside the house. If the owner doesn't need many bathrooms, this place may be clubbed with the Drawing cum living room. 08. Room for churning Curd :This was constructed on the East near South-East corner. Influence of fire is seen much in the South-East. The effect of bacteria is also less here. Another reason for having the room for churning on the South-East is that it is very near to the Kitchen. 09. Kitchen : The presiding deity of South-East is Agni, the God of Fire. Therefore, the sages laid sown the rule that kitchen should be constructed on the South-East. According to Hygienic Science the sun-rays indirectly help leaf vegetables which contain the ingredients necessary for food, proteins and nourishing qualities. 10. Place to keep Oil : Now a days it is not necessary to have a manually operated grinding machine to squeeze oil,as there are mixies & grinders run by elect. current. In old days people used to have a grinding room separately in the South leaving the SouthEast corner to keep a grinding machine. It was convenient for cooks to reach oil etc. If a separate room for this purpose is not required, this place may be used to provide either a store-room for grocery or a toilet. 11. Lounge : This should be provided in the middle of the South side so that the members of a family may take rest after lunch but the sages didn't recommend to sleep in lounge in nights. If a lounge is not required in the family, this is a suitable place for a bedroom with attached/non-attached toilet. 12. W/C Toilets : This should be built on South & West, but not on the South-West under any circumstances. 13. Room for keeping weapons etc : The weapons, heavy things and lumber must be kept in the room built in the South-West corner. If a specific place for weapons is not required, this is the best place for Master's Bedroom but weapons shouldn't be kept in the Master's Bedroom. 14. Study Room : The place on the West towards South-West is the best one for studies because this place is always influenced by the planets Mercury, the Jupiter, the Moon and the Venus. Jupiter accelerates desire to study and curiosity to learn more & more. Mercury developes intelligence. The Moon lays strength on the nerves of the brain whereas the Venus functions like a coordinator and makes the man efficient. One should sit facing North-East, East or North. If a separate study room is not required, this is a suitable place for providing extra bedroom. 15. Dining Hall : The central part on the West is a useful place for taking food. the best location for the same. Or, this place may be used to construct a bedroom. 16. Room for expressing condolences : Western portion attached to North-West zone is a proper place for expressing sympathy. This place is influenced by three planets: Saturn, Moon and Ketu. If one wants to take a decision at the earliest, this is the most suitable place. This is the suitable place for a bedroom for old ladies in the family. An attached toilet to the bedroom, if necessary, may be provided at this place.
