LANGUAGE EXERCISES TOK FEB.

2012

1. Write down 3 sentences (approx. 10 words long). Write them on the scratch paper so that the words are separated, but you need to remember them. CUT the sentences up and have a partner try to rearrange the words to form sentences. What do you come out with? How is it different than the original? ****Since it is Valentines Day, try to make one about love or romance (keep it clean)

2. On a sheet of paper draw a series of lines to make a fairly simple geometrical figure. (8-12 lines works best). Your task is to describe your figure to your partner so they can reproduce it exactly. ***Sit back to back so that the other cannot see

3. You and your partner will work as a team, and partner with another team. Both teams will write a simple sentence on a piece of paper, and give it to 1 person on the opposing team to act out for his/her partner- USING NO WORDS, PROPSONLY BODY LANGUAGE). The partner then tries to guess what the sentence said. When both teams have done one round try another with a more difficult sentence.

***What can body language communicate more or less effectively than verbal language?

4. Group together in your Language B teams (Spanish, Japanese, French). Find out some idioms related to love or romance, slang terms (keep it clean), terms of endearment, and body language that differs from English. Make a presentation for the class in the form of a Google Slideshow, collaborative Prezi, fun infographic, Vuvox, PowerPoint, or the like. (be ready to present next class)
