Science Information Pack

Dear Students and Parents, Welcome back to Science at AIC. This Information Pack will inform you of some of the projects and plans I am hoping to implement during the term as well as some of the processes by which science lessons are run and the expectations of Science Students. Please take some time to read the following pages and do feel free to contact me at the school.

I am very much looking forward to teaching the High School Science students this term, to help the students achieve their very best in the Science Subject and inspire a passion for the process of scientific enquiry at AIC.

Andrew Price.

What do Science Students need for a productive and progressive 2013?

A student Diary. It is very important that students bring a diary to every science lesson. This helps to keep work organized for the student and also can be used as a form of direct communication for parents. An A4 exercise book for class work. I endeavor to include within the class workbook a copy of all important information taught within science lessons. Textbook and Homework book. This was specified on the equipment list at the beginning of the year. Some students still are not bringing their own copies of these resources. Coloured Pencils, Glue, Scissors. Art is integrated within science classes and these resources are important for this.

Behavior policy High School teachers have implemented a behavior management policy to reinforce appropriate behavior for high school students and promote exceptional behavior within lessons. Science lessons will focus upon the following areas. Punctuality Please ensure that students arriving to lessons on time, ready with their equipment before entering the classroom. Upon the beginning of lessons students are asked to line up outside the Science room with their equipment taken out of their bags, which are to be hung up on the hooks outside the room. This keeps the entry to the classroom safe and sensible and enables the lesson to be started more promptly. Frequent latecomers will be identified and behavior policy will be implemented. Homework Homework is an important reinforcement of the topics learnt within the science lesson. Science students should expect that homework will often be given within science lessons. Students are requested to complete their homework on a Microsoft word document and submit it online through the submission window at www.mrpricescience.weebly.com . I will endeavor to have students write their homework within their diarys so that parents are aware of what is being asked with regard to homework. I have a policy of missing homework three times before a letter is sent home to identify this concern.

2013 Science Portfolio:

To keep track of your work and assessments students are completing in 2013, students are to have their own Science Portfolio to keep all their assessed work within. This is to be kept in the science classroom so that students can view their past science work and progress in science at any time throughout the year.

Science Weightings 2013

Each term will be assessed with various educational methods, weighted differently to reward the high achieving student and the hard working classroom learner. Students will be assessed each term according to the following weightings: Term Assessment Mid-Term Reporting Cycle 1. Holiday homework/Validation 2.Laboratory report(s) (this is a formal report written
using the format of a logical Scientific Method, I prefer the format: AIM, HYPOTHESIS, MATERIALS, METHOD, RESULTS, GRAPH, DISCUSSION, CONSLUSION)

3. Homework (usually to be submitted online at

www.mrpricescience.weebly.com along with the days date of submission and your name, you will generally have one assessed piece of homework/week) 15%
