Ferdinand Marcos
From Batac, Ilocos Norte Served briefly in Philippine military during WWII Was a lawyer and was elected to Philippine House of Representatives and Senate

Ferdinand Marcos
Elected President of the Philippines in 1965. Did not agree to limits on terms in office and became dictator for more than 20 years. Finally resigned from office after People Power and the loss of support from the United States.

Benigno (Ninoy) Aquino


Former Philippine senator and staunch opponent of Marcos. Was imprisoned, but later allowed to go to US for heart surgery. Was away from the Philippines for three years. Returned to Manila to fight against Marcos corruption, but was assassinated at the airport upon landing.

Corazon (Cory) Aquino


Wife of slain prodemocracy leader Benigno Aquino. Not heavily involved in politics until assassination of her husband. Was the peoples choice after Marcos left Philippines.

Juan Ponce Enrile and Fidel Ramos


Military leaders within the Marcos government who defected and called for Marcos removal from power. Fidel Ramos later became a Philippine president and Juan Enrile is currently President of the Senate.

Jose Diokno
Senator, Secretary of Justice, and outspoken critic of Marcos administration and Martial Law. Was imprisoned along with Ninoy Aquino for much of the 1970s.

Jaime Cardinal Sin


Archbishop of Manila Voice of the Catholic Church during People Power I and II

Fabian Ver
Chief of Staff of Armed Forces (head of the military). Major ally of Marcos until the end. Suspected of playing a key role in Aquino administration.

Was replaced by Fidel Ramos and lived in exile in the US until his death.

Radio Veritas

Powerful Catholic radio station in Manila. Played a key role in alerting people to the gathering on EDSA. Doubtful that the People Power movement would have reached the size it did without broadcasts by Radio Veritas

Malacaang Palace
Home of the President of the Philippines. Located along the Pasig River near Intramuros.

Ronald Reagan
40th president of the United States (1980 1988) Supporter of Marcos for many years, but ultimately withdrew support as People Power unfolded.
