W Theme Assignments ard

The 2013 Girls Camp Theme is "Girl on Fire." We want to focus this year on helping the young women of our Stake to nd a SPARK to IGNITE their testimonies and have it BURN in their hearts always! We pray that each of them will have a personal experience with the Savior this year at Camp. Our Stake will be divided by Districts (Wards) and will be assigned a value with its associated color. You can use this color to decorate. In addition we ask that each District come up with an emblem that represents your value (ie. faith-dove). Create a ag with your emblem to display at the front of your camp areas. We ask that each district nd a Woman from the scriptures, church history or even modern day Prophet's wives (ie. Emma Smith or sister Hinckley) - women who represent that value. There will be an opportunity at camp for someone in your ward to tell us about your "Woman on Fire." Wednesday evening at camp, will be "singing in the trees". All districts will meet at a designated area in the woods. Each girl is asked to bring a ashlight. And the Districts are asked to bring a tarp or mat for all your young women to sit on. Without speaking, each district will take turns turning on their ashlights and singing a song that represents their value. The song does not have to be a "Church song" but we will ask that you submit your song selection to our Music Specialist- Manu Harris for approval. This is a reverent activity. Please remind young women to be mindful and aware of this special musical tribute. How To Plan Camp

PREPARE SPIRITUALLY
...do everything you can to create or to provide the circumstances for a spiritual experience in the lives...of our young women of the Church...Nothing we do for them in our various programs will matter as much as that, and I promise you it is what they will remember and treasure the most. Elder Jerey R. Holland, Worldwide Leadership Training Meeting, June 2004 Plan with a purpose. Pray for each girl individually, to receive guidance as to her needs and how to make a dierence in her life. Everything we do at camp should help young women come unto Christ. Encourage leaders and young women to prepare spiritually for camp through gospel study and prayer. You might assign specic scriptures to read and possibly discuss, that relate to your theme.

COUNSEL WITH PRIESTHOOD LEADERS

Make sure your priesthood leaders are involved as you make decisions concerning purpose, goals, budget, fundraising and scheduling.

READ THE LEADERS GUIDE & CAMP MANUAL

Almost all of your questions about camp guidelines and procedures can be answered in these two references.

USE MUTUAL NIGHT

Think of things that can be done before camp, e.g. certication, craft preparation, rst aid kits, etc. Involve the girls as much as possible during mutual nights. For example, you could put together simple rst aid kits with items such as tweezers, ice packs (instant), needles and thread, plastic bags, band aids, antiseptic cleaner or wipes, heat packs (instant), safety pins, mylar blankets, after bite cream, etc.
!

CREATE CAMP OBJECTIVES

When planning for Girls Camp, it helps to outline four or ve specic objectives. Ask yourself: Why are we going to Girls Camp? What do we hope to accomplish? Your objectives may (or may not) look similar to these examples. Girls Camp Objectives (examples): -The young women in our ward will develop stronger faith in Jesus Christ and in His Restored Gospel. -The young women in our ward will learn to respect and appreciate nature. -The young women in our ward will feel the Spirit. -The young women in our ward will learn skills and work hard, and thus feel strong, successful and condent. -The young women in our ward will prepare to be women, mothers and wives. -The young women in our ward will form bonds of friendship and have fun. Another way to do this is to form objectives for before, during and after your camp. For example, what do you hope the youth will know/do/feel before camp? What about during, and a"er camp? Important: When you plan your activities for Girls Camp (before/during/ after) make sure EACH activity relates back to one or more of your objectives. This way, all activities and experiences are done with a purpose and will produce specic results. However you decide to do it, mapping out objectives is an important part of your camp organization.

DEVELOP YOUR CAMP THEME

A theme for Girls Camp will bring unity to your activities, devotionals and objectives. Have fun with it!
! 9

PLAN YOUR FOOD

Questions to Consider: How many breakfasts, lunches and dinners do we need to prepare for? Who is in charge of each meal? How can we tie in the theme, to the food? How do we make sure the girls drink enough water? What will snacks be? When are snacks available? What is our food budget? Plan Your Skit Night What night will skit night be? Who will be doing skits? Leaders? Each ward? Each class? Who will be in charge of coordinating skit night and informing the leaders of their responsibilities connected to this night?

PLAN YOUR DEVOTIONALS

*Devotionals are a great time to teach the gospel and invite the Spirit. Questions to Consider: When will we have devotionals? Every night? Every morning? After lunch? What subjects do we want addressed in the devotionals? Who will teach each devotional? *Let your objectives and your theme guide you here.

PLAN YOUR CERTIFICATION

Questions to Consider: What and who needs to be certied before camp? Who will teach this? When and where will this be taught? What and who needs to be certied AT camp? Who will teach this? When and where will this be taught?

Mealtime and cleanup 6. Quiet personal time (scriptures, meditation, journals, and prayers) 7. Other activities and fun 8. Mealtime and cleanup 9. Cleanup of camp 10. Evening devotional (talents, talks, testimonies, music and prayer) 11. Evening prayers 12. Bedtime 13. Resources
Planning and executing a successful Girls Camp is a joint eort. The Camp Director will need assistance from other leaders in the ward, along with help from the young women themselves and their parents. It is very important to divide responsibilities. A specialist may be called and given a specic assignment pertaining to Girls Camp. The specialist is responsible for coordinating all details that pertain to her assignment. Examples of a specialist are, Food Specialist, Certication Specialist, Decoration Specialist, Devotional Specialist, Music Specialist, etc. People, Manuals and Online References are all resources that, when used eectively, can add to the overall experience at Girls Camp.
