Today we are going to read The Sandwich Swap by Queen Rania AlAbdullah. What do you think that swap means? And predictions about what this story is about? Guided Reading Who are the main characters? Using adjectives that we have been working on can someone please describe Lily? And Salma? What is the problem? How do you think Salma feels? How would you feel? Have you ever felt like that before? Like someone was making fun of something that was different than what they were used to? How is the problem solved? What was the authors purpose?

What did she want us to learn from reading this book?That everyone is different. We should not be mean or make fun of them because they are different. Different sandwichesdifferent familiesdifferent cultures. Introduce the word culture if it does not come up by this point.

Assessment Ok boys and girls I am going to pair you up into partners. Then, I want you to go back to your desks and get a pencil and then find a spot around the room with your partner. You are going to talk to your partner and find 1 thing that is alike and one thing that is different between you. Review alike and different if necessary. T-Chart worksheet where they record their findings. Prompting ideas: food, clothes, Holidays, religions, languages, favorite games/sports/subjects in school Accommodation Strategic pairings so that students who might struggle are working with a very helpful student. Make sure to define and give examples for unfamiliar words within story.
