Dear Family Members, Providing support to a person with an intellectual or developmental disability takes a very special person. Caregivers must be knowledgeable, caring, compassionate, and understanding, as well as technically skilled. These qualities are special gifts that not all caregivers possess. Tim Atkinson, the former Executive Director of The Arc, espoused these qualities and was well known for his deeply Upon Tims passing in November 2008, The Arc established the Timothy J. Atkinson Memorial Scholarship to honor Tims memory as well as perpetuate his tradition of caring by helping one student who planned to enter a field that would advocate for or care for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The first scholarship was awarded this past June to Eleanor Mockler from Francis Scott Key High School. Eleanor plans to attend Boston University in the fall.
