Question: So far on the island, the boys have showed inconsistent with their actions, ideas, and interactions with others. Look at Jack, Ralph, Piggy, and Simon individually. How have their actions and beliefs changed? What makes their actions and beliefs change? What are messages Golding is telling us through his characters' inconsistencies?

Other Discussion Question: Look at the examples of good and evil in the text. Where do you see these examples? What role does Simon's character and death play in this discussion of good and evil? How is Simon's death a turning point in the text? Why does Golding choose to kill Simon? What are we learning about human behavior and beliefs through his death?
