THE GOLDEN AGE OF ISLAM

ART
Early Islam artists were forbidden from painting arts portraying

human figures
They believe that this will tempts the Islam followers of Mohammad to idolatry. Since they cant use imitations of images that represents humans in

any way, it led the artist to do calligraphy and Arabesques .


However, Non-religious artists are allowed to use human figure, most of these arts are used on works relating to science or literature and they are used very well illustrated.

CALLIGRAPHY
Repeat geometrical patterns that expressed ideals of order and nature. It was used on religious architectures, carpets and hand written documents.

ARABESQUES
It is similar to calligraphy as it is a repeated geometrical patterns
too but it often represents the forms of plants and animals. They are usually found decorating on the walls of mosque. It is not widely used until the Golden age of Islam.

OTHER CONTRIBUTIONS
Islam also contributed during the Golden Age when they lusterpainted their significant patterns of geometrical shapes on ceramics which was later on imitated by Italian potters during the Renaissance. Manuscripts illumination became a very important and greatly respect art while the miniature paintings became popular in Persia.

MUSIC-IBN MISJAH
- Referred as the father of Islamic music - Born in Mecca with Persian heritage - Musical theorist, singer and lute player - Travelled to Syria and Persia to learn the theory and practice of Byzantine and Persian music

AL FARABI
- Philosopher, musician, logician, and a political scientist - Recognized as the Second Father - Wrote a book called Kitab Al-Musiqa

(The Book of Music)


- Invented many instruments
