Writing 2 - Week 2

What’s a cycle?
The metamorphosis of
Butterfly

A butterfly lays its eggs on a

leaf. The worm-like larva grows
inside the egg.

When it is ready, the larva bites

a small hole in the egg shell
and wriggles its way into the
world. After a few minutes, the
newly hatched larva has its first
meal -- the remains of its egg.
A caterpillar begins eating
leaves as soon as it is
hatched.

The caterpillar stops eating

and looks for a safe place. It
spins a button from the
branch, forms, a J-shape, then
forms a chrysalis.
In a few hours the chrysalis
hardens. It is now the pupa
stage. It will hang quietly for
about two weeks.

The chrysalis splits open

and the butterfly begins to
come out. Its wings are still
crumpled and wet.
The butterfly hangs on to the
split chrysalis until its wings
are dry.

When the butterfly's wings are

dry and unfurled, it flies off to
find food.
