    Overview:
    As a line extension of IBM, EBO system has duty to explore new business area for
    innovation and growth profitably. However, concerns were appeared by doubts of
    experienced managers and employees and because of “large risks, few resources”.
     Analysis:
    1. EBO system and innovation at IBM:
    EBO system would be an effective way for IBM to foster innovation:
    - Experienced leaders are assigned
    - IBM has traditional image of trust and reliable products
    - Free from financial measurement and reporting
    - Flexibility golden rule

    2. Keys to success:

    This approach would be effective in other organization only the followings are maintained:
    - Line extension is appreciated
    - Adequate time pressure
    - Experienced management in the starting period of business

    3. Worries of EBO leaders:


    - Sudden shift out of EBO umbrella may challenge growth
    - Capable of managing various stages of EBOs

    => Harreld should:- Identify and develop really profitable “white-space business”
    - Set clear objectives for the transfer
    - Support for the connection before and after transfer
