THE IMPORTANCE OF MUSIC AND MOVEMENT

1. Children communicate with movement by duplicating natural behavior such as ironing, stirring, swimming and playing the piano. By duplicating the movement they learn to transfer message and represent action in a simple way that adult can understand.

2. During the pre mature thinking of children, their minds are still not in the concrete stage and learning process happens in the stage of semi concrete mind. Therefore children absorb knowledge by using physical contact in order to understand meanings or phrase.

3. It is because movement helps them to build and structure their large motor skill. It also can improve their body balance, coordination and rhythm through movement activities.

4. For an example, during setup a choir team I found one of my student have problem with less verbal communication. When I apply movement and music during the choir setup process, I found that she enjoy the learning process and can perform much better compare to others.

5. Participating in group In choir team, there are cluster in each group Soprano, Alto, Tenor and Bass. All the cluster group sing in harmony way and unity. Social skills They learn self confident, avoid shyness, proud and group motivated when perform in front of audience. Awareness of movement and body positions They learn to move according to beat and tempo with various kind of song.

Creativity and imagination The try to create their creativity movement according to lyric or rhythm. Children also can act the characteristic in the song for example Nenek Si Bongkok Tiga. Develop large motor skills In Bass band, they can combine large motor skill in their show when they play their instruments. For example formation music shows. In the show, they combine visual, auditory and kinesthetic altogether.
