The past few weeks have proved to be among the hottest periods in the new year or 2013 at least

for us in the tropics. There are many reasons for the increasing temperature like the changes in heat output from the sun and in the planets swings about its axes but humans are also to blame for the rising mercury. Governments everywhere are actively encouraging their automobile and aircraft industries to produce, export and sell as much as possible. Cars are getting bigger and super giant planes capable of carrying 700 to 800 people are appearing. Then there is the global tourism industry which is the top avoidable contributor (besides the US military which is the single largest user of energy in the world) to the problem of global warming due to the voracious amounts of energy required to keep the entire global tourism industry humming at maximum revs. To combat global warming, the world must learn to reject hypocrisy and to discard any herd mentality. One cannot solve global warming by simply keeping rooms and corridors dark and without lights for a few seconds or minutes. We must take the bull by the horns and fight the global tourist with all our might and strength. He is the huge devil that must be completely exorcised if we want to fight global warming with some tangible measure of success. Monthly the global tourism industry consumes super huge quantities of fuel to enable passenger aircraft, ships, trains and cars all over the world to ferry the global tourist at great comfort but at the big expense of the environment. The global tourist eats, drinks, farts, leaves his shit and even his germs behind in every place he goes to. Energy is needed to clean up his mess when he leaves. While he is around, he wants his place of stay or his hotel to be utilising maximum energy to keep him comfortable and the shops and entertainment centres he visits to burn maximum power to keep him happy and satisfied.
