PHYSICS - CONCAVE LENSES

BY: Albert, Elvina, Hansen, Olivia

WHAT ARE LENSES?

Lenses are used in optical instrument such as camera, spectacles, microscopes and telescopes; they have two types lenses one is convex which in bloated in shape and thicker in center while concave lenses have thinnest in center and shape like a caving in middle.

CONCAVE LENS
Concave lenses refract its light divergently (spread out)

from the focal point and the result will give a diminished image. Example of concave lenses uses are shortsighted spectacles.

~LE EQUATIONS

equations

LIST.

s= distance of object from center of lens (+) s= distance of image from center of lens (-) f= distance of focal point from lens (focal length) (-) P = the power of lens (-) M = magnification of image (+) h = height of object (+) h = height of image (+)

Examples
The focal length of a concave lens is 6 cm. An object is placed 12 cm in front of the lens. Determine: 1.the image length 2.the magnification of the image 3.the size of the image if the object size is 12 cm 4.natural of image

What we know: - f = -6 cm [as focal length of concave length is (-)] - s = 12 cm [as objects distance is always (+)] - h = 12 cm What we need to know: s M h

TRY THIS OUT !

A candle is standing on 12 cm in front of a concave lens

with f = -7.9 cm. Determine :

- image length - magnification - power lens - object size if image size is 6 cm - nature of image

THX THATS ALL..
