I want to encourage students to read more by using Edmodo to upload book trailers that students create with Animoto

to our Media Centers Edmodo page. This will entail students writing a script, making a video using Animoto web 2.0 tool, and editing the final product for use on Edmodo. This video will demonstrate the need for these reviews, as well as students going through the process of creating one. Standards (AASL) 2.1.6 Use the writing process, media and visual literacy, and technology skills to create products that express new understandings. 4.1.3 Respond to literature and creative expressions of ideas in various formats and genres. 4.1.7 Use social networks and information tools to gather and share information. Target Audience Age: I teach at a high school, so the age range for my audience will be 14-18 year-olds. Cultural Background: Our school population contains 71%White/Caucasian, 16% Black, 5% Hispanic, 4% MultiRacial, 3% Asian. Educational Level: The levels of these students will be varied as some will have technology experience with online video creating tools, while others will be first time video creators. Specific Entry Skills: Basic web navigation Learning Styles: This video will be developed with auditory and visual learners in mind. Motivation: Attention The students will be intrigued with the idea of having the opportunity to share their thoughts with fellow students through video. Relevance The students often ask the media specialists their opinion of books, but now students will be able to offer suggestions as well, and using Animoto will give students the opportunity to use a new technology tool. Confidence The instructions given in the video will give students confidence that they can create a book trailer and that uploading it to Edmodo will allow their voice/opinion to be heard. Satisfaction Students will receive a sense of satisfaction that they could successfully create a book trailer video and upload it and the feeling of satisfaction knowing that their opinion might make the difference in students reading more books. Objective Given the opportunity to provide a book review, students will create a book trailer video and then successfully upload the review to the Media Centers Edmodo page.
