1. Curriculum Standards Addressed: PKRI 2- With prompting and support, identify the main topic and retell key details of a text. PKRI 3- With prompting and support, describe the connection between two individuals, events, ideas or pieces of information in a text. 2. Cross Curricular Connections: EEDA- teaching about proper characteristics and actions between peers by contrasting good and bad behaviors. 3. Instructional Objective(s) Criteria: When given a detailed story, children can successfully compare and contrast characters, events, and ideas and find a connection for the purpose of the story.

4. Assessment(s) of the Objectives: Pre- Ask for key details of a book they read previously in class During- As I read: Ask about their opinions about the characters in the book, ask students if the behaviors are good/bad Post- pull children out during centers: ask who the two main characters were, where the characters in the story were, and ask how the characters are different. Then on the activity sheet are photos of behaviors. The children will circle a happy face or sad face to tell whether the behavior is good or bad. This will show what theyve ultimately learned about character.

5. Materials/Resources: Book- The Recess Queen, Word Document, photos, activity sheet 6. Prerequisites (Prior Knowledge): The student must already know how to look for and explain key details in a story and must also know the definition of a character

7. Procedures: Introduce The Recess Queen, read the book, ask questions during like; Is Queen Jean nice?, What does she do to be mean?, and Is asking Mean Jean to jump rope a good thing?. After I read we will talk about the story: ask the students to describe Mean Jean and what she did, and also Katie Sue. Sum it up and tell the students that I will be calling them over for a small session, dismiss

the students to centers, call one student at a time, review the story again with questions like, Who are the two main characters? and What happened in the story?, ask what was a bad behavior in the story and what was a good behavior, show the student the activity sheet, give instructions about the happy/sad face and each picture, allow the child to answer and tell why, continue until all students have had a chance, close up.

8. Accommodations: Students with visual or hearing impairments will be moved to the front of the carpet, any misbehaved student will be put in the watchers chair to keep others from being distracted, any with a language barrier will get more time and heavy gestures to accent the behavior for understanding.
