Scientific Method Work

Independent Variable/Manipulated Variable: How many cigarettes will be in the closed
system.

Dependent Variable: I will measure the height, and count the number of leaves the
plant has.

Constants: The constants in my experiment are the amount of cigarettes the correct plant
will get, the days I will do my experiment on, the type of plants I use, the light the plants
will get, the type of container they are in, and the brand of cigarettes used in the
experiment.

Controlled Group: The controlled group in my experiment will be the group that
will not receive any of the cigarette smoke.

Experimental Group: The experimental groups in my experiment are the groups that will
receive one or two cigarettes on the days I do my experiment.

How Long Will this Project Run?

In my experiment I hope to run it for one month only smoking the plants on Mondays,
Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Where?
I will be conducting my experiment in Mr. Van’s classroom.

6. Put the correct amount of cigarettes in their place for the closed system
7. Close the closed system
8. Let the cigarettes burn out
9. Repeat steps 1-8 for the other two systems
10. Do this procedure on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays
11. After each week measure the height and count the number of leaves on the plant
