Debate Speech: 3rd Speaker

Good morning judges and fellow students.Today I will be discussing about problems in China and how China can be an opportunity to the US. Even though Chinas economy has been developing remarkably, they still face problems within the country. China depends greatly on exports combined with a low consumption rate, a vast gap between the rich and the poor, the developed/developing country paradox, and extreme pollution problems. Because Chinas economy is largely based on low-cost labor and exports, it would require large reconstructing of the economy to evolve into a high-tech powerhouse, which would be on par with the worlds top developed countries. For that to happen, the majority of the population would have to move above the poverty line, and that will take a long time. China is known for producing fake goods. China has produced counterfeit products from famous brands to sell them at cheap prices. This causes the company of the real brand to lose money. They even created a product called Rikedas, which is the mixed name of Reebok, Adidas, and Nike. China was called to build a satellite for Nigeria, after 6 months it fell off from its orbit. Product safety is also one of Chinas most troubled problems. Since China exports goods worldwide, the problems, of course, go worldwide. They export toxic goods, poisoned or unclean food, and unsafe products. It concerns public health and safety. Millions of toys manufactured by China had traces of lead paint, which can cause damages to the nerve systems in children. Also Its dog-food was poisoning American dogs, along with toothpaste with traces of poison inside the dog food. Vinegars in China can burn the inside of the human because the company used a very strong chemical acid to make the vinegar. Quality issues have been a big problem in China, but because of their cheap labor, producers dont shift to other sources The axiom "Cheap goods carry a high price" becomes truer each day as Chinese manufacturers issue recall after recall of low-cost, toxic goods. China has extreme pollution problems because of ill-planned hydrological engineering projects affecting the flow of rivers and unsuitable infrastructure in the flood plain has caused habitat loss and driven species out of their natural habitats.Air pollution is a leading cause of death, with problems in the respiratory system and heart diseases. Factories are pouring wastes into rivers, oceans, and lakes. Chinas problems dont only affect the people in China, but people all around the world. Sulfur dioxides and hydrogen oxide coming from coal-fired factories are causing acid rain in Korea and Japan. The air pollution in Los Angeles has been traced back to China. President Obama states that the US is not afraid of China. The US and smaller Asian nations have grown increasingly concerned about China claiming dominion over vast areas of the Pacific which the US considers international waters, and reigniting old territorial disputes, including confrontations over the South China Sea. US officials have also pressed China to end unfair discrimination against the US and other foreign countries. The US should not see China as a threat but as an opportunity. The Chinese premier Zhu Rongji, at a visit to The United States, states that Chinas growth will pose no threat to US, but instead will offer opportunities for the US to advance its business interests.
