Solar Energy

Brief Description
Solar energy is radiation generated by the sun that reaches the earth as light and heat. That energy can be converted into a usable form by man-made means. Using solar energy technologies could diversify the countrys energy supply, and reduce the countrys dependence on imported fuels, improve air quality, and offset greenhouse gas emissions. Types solar electricity solar thermal

Applications
Office building Factory Warehouse Schools Community halls Clinics To dry cloth

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages No pollution Totally silent Very little maintenance Save money in long term Disadvantages Still need to rely on other sources of energy Occupy large space Do not get same efficiency Solar panels is expensive

Interesting Fact
Due to the demand for solar energy items is currently greater than supply and completion In the next decade, it's expected that photovoltaic power will be similar in price to traditional sources of electricity. Solar panels will be a standard feature for newly constructed homes and commercial buildings.

Wind Power

Brief Description
Energy received from the movement of the wind across the earth. This energy is a result of the heating of our oceans, earth, and atmosphere by the sun. We are able to harness energy from the wind, and turn this into renewable electricity.

How It Work

Applications of Wind Power

Wind turbines to make electrical power Windmills for mechanical power Wind pumps for water pumping Sails to propel ships.

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages The wind is free. Does not cause green house gases or other pollutants. Need only a small plot of land Disadvantages Wind turbines are noisy Strength of the wind is not constant and it varies from zero to storm force. When wind turbines are being manufactured some pollution is produced.

Interesting Fact
Wind power is currently the fastest-growing source of electricity production in the world. A single wind turbine can power 500 homes. Unlike nearly every other form of energy, wind power uses virtually no water.

Geothermal Energy

Brief Description
One of the greatest energy resources on the planet. The Earth's core is full of heat, and heat builds up tremendous pressure in the Earth's core that simply has to be released in some way. The hot water and steam from the Earth can be used in a variety of different ways to create energy. Geothermal energy is called renewable energy because the heat in the Earth's core is constant.

How It Work

Applications
District heating Greenhouses Fisheries Mineral recovery Industrial process heating

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantage Maintenance cost of geothermal power plants is very less. Disadvantage Only few sites have the potential of Geothermal Energy.

Don't occupy too much space

Independent on the weather conditions.

Installation cost of steam power plant is very high.

Release some harmful, poisonous gases through the holes

Interesting Fact
Geothermal energy is not exactly clean energy. Lower levels of heat are now required to produce electricity.

Hydro Power

Brief Description
Simply energy that is taken from water and converted to electricity The most common method of using energy from water is a hydroelectric dam Power can also be generated from the energy of tidal forces or wave power, which uses the energy created by waves.

Application
Used to make electricity Irrigation and the operation of various mechanical devices

Advantages and Disadvantages

Advantages Cheaper than using other methods Disadvantages Harm plants and animals in the water.

Can be used almost Expensive and take time to immediately when turned build on to meet the demand for electricity.

The lake's water can be used for irrigation purposes.

Natural environment is destroyed.

Interesting Fact
Hydropower today provides about 20 % of the world's electricity Hydroelectric energy generation is the cheapest source of energy on the planet. Hydropower's advantage over other renewable energy sources is the fact that average rainfall is highly predictable.
