TEACHING EXPERIENCE Millcreek Elementary School, Granite School District August 2012 March 2013 Student Teacher (AmeriCorps Scholarship) Salt Lake City, Utah Taught a 2nd grade class of 29 culturally and linguistically diverse students, including ADHD, gifted and talented, hearing impaired, and ESL. Implemented a classroom economy plan that included student-created jobs, applications, paydays, fines, and bonuses. Attended Response to Intervention meetings for several students and kept track of all student data. Administered assessments including DIBELS, using the program mCLASS, and Acuity. Implemented curriculum programs such as Go Math, Imagine It, and Interconnections. Implemented the Common Core English Language Arts and Mathematics Standards. Differentiated instruction for five different leveled reading groups that met daily. Collaborated with another 2nd grade teacher to organize and implement a service-learning project of creating compound-word books, running a book drive, and writing letters to children at Primary Childrens Hospital. Completed second-term report card grades and citizenship, conducted parent-teacher conferences, and provided parents with materials that can be used with students at home. Wrote and received a grant from the Granite Education Foundation Cash for Classrooms Committee. Glendale Middle School, Salt Lake City School District January 2012 April 2012 Reading Tutor Salt Lake City, Utah Tutored a 6th grade ESL student twice a week in the Higher Steps program resulting in significant improvements in fluency, accuracy, sight word recognition, and ability to apply word-attack skills. Escalante Elementary School, Salt Lake City School District August 2011 November 2011 Reading Tutor Salt Lake City, Utah Tutored a 3rd grade ESL student twice a week in the Next Steps program. This student showed significant growth in her word-attack skills, fluency, and accuracy. Beacon Heights Elementary School, Salt Lake City School District March 2011 April 2011 University Volunteer Salt Lake City, Utah Taught a 3rd grade class a unit on biomes and ecosystems. The unit integrated the arts and the culminating event was a show for parents and other students at the school. Dilworth Elementary School, Salt Lake City School District April 2010 Math Tutor Salt Lake City, Utah Observed in a classroom and taught three math lessons to three students in the 2nd grade on place value and two-digit addition.
