Name: __________________________ Independent Literature Genre Study There are many different types of books.

Most of us have one or two favourite kinds (science fiction, drama, mystery), and the independent literature genre study is designed to get you exploring genres you may not have read before. The project requirements are as follows: Each student is required to read a minimum of three novels, but you are encouraged to do more as time permits. Each novel must be from a different genre (see attached page). Each novel must be approximately 150 pages or more. While reading the novel, you will complete tasks on sticky notes that reflect your thoughts (10 connections and 10 questions spread throughout, minimum). After reading each novel, you will complete a summary page and a project that captures the essence of each book. The literature study will occur from Wednesday, March 26 to Wednesday, June 5. Much of your work on this project will be completed at home but it is recommended that you bring your book back and forth each day so you can take every opportunity to read/work possible. Another option is to keep one copy of the book at school and take another copy out of the public library to keep at home. Deadline #1: First book with sticky notes, Book Summary, and a project due Wednesday, April 24. Deadline #2: Second book with sticky notes and a project due Wednesday, May 15. Deadline #3: Third book with sticky notes and a project due Wednesday, June 5. CHALLENGE: Do a fourth book by the final deadline, and come up with your own unique project to show your learning. You will be given a selection of possible projects to choose from. By the end of the novel study, you must hand in one written, one oral, and one visual project.
