Kirsten Pasia MUS 267 Leslie Manfredo 3/8/13 Philosophy All children deserve a quality education which delights

and inspires them. It is my job as an educator to provide that, and I plan to do so in an environment that not only covers a standards-based curriculum, but also encourages real-world skills such as critical thinking, collaboration, creativity, and communication. In my classroom, students will learn and demonstrate a number of musical skills that will serve to enhance their level of musicianship, as well as instill in them a life-long love of music. These skills cover both knowledge and performance standards, including proficiencies in individual and ensemble singing, understanding of musical notation, demonstration of musical literacy, and exposure to music of varying cultures, genres, and eras. It is my hope that, through these standards, my students not only build skills within the realm of music, but that they come away from my classroom as well-rounded citizens and discerning consumers of the arts.
