1. Your parents have decided to put new carpeting in the living room of your home. The room is 7 yards wide by 9 yards long. If it costs $34/square yard, how much will it cost to carpet the entire room? Hint: It is a rectangular shaped room.

2. Jen wants to plant a garden this spring and grow her own fruits. She has a small area in her yard that is just perfect for a first time gardener. The area is a perfect square, measuring 4 feet by 4 feet. How much would it cost Jen for soil if the cost of the soil is $2.25/square inch? Be sure to CAREFULLY read the question and make any conversions necessary.

3. Maggie wants to build a ramp leading to her porch. Her elderly mother is moving in with her and has a difficult time using the stairs. The ramp will be shaped like an isosceles triangle. The base of the ramp will be 36 wide, while the height is only 18. The total cost to build the ramp was $1200. How much did the ramp cost per square inch to build?

4. The owners of a new restaurant want to replace the counter top. It is shaped like a trapezoid and will cost the owners $.10/square inch. The diagram below shows the dimensions of the counter top. Find the cost to replace the countertop.
