NGC1: The Management of Health & Safety You have now completed NGC1 Element One.

Spend some time attempting to answer the following questions. Pay attention to the wording of the questions and the points available to give you an idea of how much information is required. To help you the action verbs have been highlighted in bold.

(a) Outline FOUR powers available to an inspector when investigating a workplace accident. (4 marks). (b) Identify the TWO types of enforcement notice that may be served by an inspector, stating the conditions that must be satisfied before EACH type of notice is served. (4 marks). 6. (a) Explain, giving an example in EACH case, the circumstances under which a health and safety inspector may serve: i. An improvement notice; (3 marks). ii. A prohibition notice. (3 marks). (b) State the effect on EACH type of enforcement notice of appealing against it. (2 marks). 7. List EIGHT possible costs to an organisation when employees are absent due to work-related ill health. (8 marks) 8. The number of absences due to upper limb disorders in an organisation appears to be increasing. Outline the possible sources of information that could be consulted when investigating this problem. (8 marks)
