DESCRIPTION

The purpose of this lesson is for students to understand the effective preparation for a job interview.

ESSENTIAL QUESTION(S)

1. Why is it important for students to prepare for a job interview? 2. Should students represent themselves to make an impact impression for success?
OBJECTIVES

1. Students will be able to organize thoughts to reflect logical positive, and tactful thinking before speaking by taking a personality test with a degree of 95 percent degree of accuracy. (BCS-BE-3b) 2. Students will be able to discuss the significance of nonverbal communication in the interviewing process by critiquing the behaviors of an interviewee with a 95 percent degree of accuracy. (BCS-BE-38d) 3. Students will be able to organize thoughts to reflect logical, positive, and tactful thinking before speaking by participating in mock interview sessions with a 90 percent degree of accuracy. (BCS-BE-3b) 4. Students will be able to format various types of business correspondences by creating a personal resume with a 95 percent degree of accuracy. (BCS-BE-2b)

FOCUS: Day 1 Instructional Strategies: Students will answer the following question by writing their answers on their papers. How would you describe yourself?? How would a friend or teacher describe you?? Students will share their responses when called upon to start a class discussion on the importance of words in describing yourself in a job interview.

BODY: Instructional Strategies: Day 1 Students will see and hear the objectives read from the projector using cordless microphone. Students will listen, observe and take notes on teachers lecture, via the teachers cordless microphone, explaining the purpose of making a self-assessment personality test, the importance in choosing a career path that matches your characteristics, ability and skills. Students will participate in a written personality assessment. Students will share and discuss the results of their personality assessment when called upon.

Students will listen, observe and takes notes on teachers lecture on the Obj. 1, 2,3 /verbal, importance of self-awareness during a job interview and what skills are kinesthetic, visual needed for a successful interview.

BODY: Instructional Strategies: Day 1 cont Students will be instructed to wear business attire for a job interview for the next class for 25 extra credit points.

And why did you choose that particular phone?? Students will share their responses when called upon to start a class discussion on the importance of words in describing yourself in a job interview and what makes you attractive to potential employers.

Students will listen, observe and take notes on teachers lecture, via the teachers cordless microphone, explaining important job interviewing skills, the 5 Part Interview, and how you are rated on a job interview.

BODY: Instructional Strategies: Day 2 cont.. Students will watch a video on the dos and donts of job interview and take notes. http://youtu.be/S1ucmfPOBV8 Students will share their result of the video when called upon. Students will be instructed on what is a mock job interview and those students who participated in the extra credit assignment regarding dressing in business job interviewing attire will be chosen randomly to participate in a mock interview. (2 mock interviews will be conducted 5 min each). Students will evaluate both interviews on the mock interview evaluation sheet

CLOSURE/SUMMARY: Instructional Strategies: Students will be chosen randomly by teacher to discuss their evaluations of the mock interview. Students will be introduced to resume writing and the importance of having a short detailed resume for to apply for jobs and for the job interview. Students will be given homework that will entail, the use of MS Excel to coordinate their information in the following areas: Education, Experience, Extra-Curricular Activities, and groups and/or affiliations. This information will be used to coordinate the students resume in the following class.

EVALUATION/ASSESSMENT: Instructional Strategies: INFORMAL: Students will write their names on the mock job interview evaluation for 20 participation points. Students will turn them into class box. (ticket-out-the-door). FORMAL: Students will have to write a paragraph on the mock job interview. Students must state what they have write three things they learned and why its important to dress for success. Students will have to complete in MS Word and email to teacher for 50points which Is 25% of their overall participation points.
