encounters many issues across the nation. Some being an urgent crisis, some so small majority of the country overlooks, and others falling in between the two. Bullying is an issue we continuously face every day in our nation, in fact, the word bully was first used in 1530 and was a synonym for sweetheart. But as time progressed and more cases arose, the term bully no longer has that interpretation. The general public would assume an issue that occurs so frequently and is becoming more and more common would and should be addressed immediately and have a strict reinforcement. But, unfortunately it doesn't always get addressed properly nor are some parents taking the time to practice some constructive reinforcement and a blatantly ignoring the fact bullying even occurs. And of course, there's the other extremity where parents are actually allowing their children to undergo plastic surgery in order for them to dodge bullying. For instance, a first grader went through surgery to have her ears pinned back in order for her to not be bullied. Is our nation that off balance to where there's no happy medium to minimize the occurrence of bullying? Apparently there isn't one; therefore, bullying should seize altogether. Throughout this project I wanted to portray exactly that message. Children need to learn to stop the violence, especially associated with bullying. Research presented by Fight Crime/Invest in Kids shows that 60% of boys who bullied children from grade one to grade nine and have convicted at least one crime by the time they turned 24 years old. They also mention that 40% admitted to the same circumstances and that they have convicted a minimum of three crimes by age 24. Therefore, this study shows that bullying has a long term effect on children even through adulthood. The repetend

Baugh 2 incorporated in each of these pieces portrays my message of bullying stopping altogether. The repetend is the palm of a hand with a stop sign in the center of the palm reading, Stop The Pain. I found ways to incorporate this symbol in each of my pieces. I created each piece in my project to be able to stand alone. Each piece expresses the same message, but each piece targets a different audience, but overall target audience is everyone in the United States. I didn't want to specify it as everyone who is affected by bullying because that is everyone. For example, an adult can be affected by bullying without having any relationship or connection to the child. A child could approach the adult at the park or on the street reporting to them that another child or a group of children are being bullied. And this project speaks to parents who have children who may or may not be associated with bullying, this project also speaks to children who are involved in bullying. These pieces were designed so everyone could interpret them and raise awareness. I didn't want to only target parents or only target children, nor did I want to make the pieces complicated and the way they are designed allows all parties to absorb the information. The most influential source I received from my research that my overall project is based off of is there only being 28 percent of children between the ages 12 and 18 who reported being bullied during the 2008-2009 school year. This statistic raised concern and awareness to me and was an indication that the word of children reporting bullying needed to get out because adults, parents/guardians, etc, can't intervene and settle the occurrence of bullying if they aren't aware of it happening. The first piece I thought of doing for this project was the children's book. I thought of a children's book because the individuals idolized in this research and basis of this project are children. The animation of the children's book is something children can relate to. The layout and creation of my children's book was initiated by looking at other children's books such as, Are You My Mother? By Dr. Seuss. I didn't want to replicate the layout of the book but it gave me a general idea of how a children's book layout should look. I tried not to make the book have too many words, because again, this is a

Baugh 3 children's book. But I still wanted to make the storyline clear and allow readers to be able to grasp the message. I integrated my repetend on multiple pages of the children's book as being a poster as well as on the title page in the upper right-hand corner as being one of multiple books in that series, an idea I got from Dr. Seuss. The book tells a story of how a child witnesses bullying and initially ignores it thinking it's not their problem, similar to children in schools today feel when witnessing bullying. But after consideration she decides to find an adult to intervene the assault and her and the child being bullied become friends while the child that was bullying gets sent to the Principals' office. One source that helped me in the creation of the children's book is the information obtained from the WebMD website. It provides safe and productive ways for children to report bullying. This source was helpful because I implied some of the skills and strategies of reporting bullying they suggested. The children's book is part of the visual/visual with words category, even more specific it is a cartoon genre. The target audience for this specific piece are children who witness bullying and aren't sure if they should report it or ignore it. The next piece I thought of creating was a recipe. The recipe represents guidelines (ingredients and directions) for children to follow if they are being bullied; therefore, that group of individuals are the target audience for this specific piece. I incorporated the repetend in the upper right-hand corner as being a photograph of what the finished project will look like after following these instructions. The most influential source from my research in this piece was the information I found from the APA website, because it mentioned how if teachers intervene when they see a child being bullied, they need involve both the parents and the child, and in my cooking directions on my recipe I mentioned the adult could be a teacher, parent, etc. I wasn't original certain of how a recipe should ultimately look so I looked up a few and shuffled through a few pages of a cookbook. I cut and burned the edges and corners of the recipe and made it look worn out and old as a symbolism of the recipe being around for years, and has always been there but not very many people practice the recipe anymore. I made the s

Baugh 4 serving size for this recipe as 313,914,040 because the population in the United States as of 2012 is 313,914,040 and it's representing everyone in the United States is able to practice this recipe. This piece is part of the print media genre. The final and last piece for this project is the police report. I thought a police report would be great pertaining to this topic because police reports are a serious item to take into consideration as well as bullying. In this police report I had the repetend be in the bottom right-hand corner. It's in black and white as a representation of being a stamp and the stamp indicates that it is a bully case. This police report gives an overview of an incident between two boys who were in an altercation outside the school when the Principal approached them and called the police. The two boys got arrested, one got arrested for assault on the other child while the other child got arrested for the presentation of a weapon. This police report is written in the informative media. This police report represents a message to everyone in the nation. It targets children being bullied because it shows to not take revenge or matters into their own hands, they should always find an adult to intervene in the situation while it speaks to children bullying them as even though children shouldn't, they will take matters into their own hands and may present a weapon, also to stop bullying because they could inevitably get arrested for brutal assault. The main source from research that influenced me in this piece was the information from the NCPC website. It influenced my thinking because they mentioned how most bullies are children who are involved in crimes and in the case of my police report, the bully committed a crime of assault to another child. In conclusion, I created each of these pieces as a representation to stand for the overall message to stop bullying. Children across the nation are slowly learning more and more what it means to speak up and report bullying and how big of a difference they can make as well as how huge of an impact they have on those around them. I feel I provided a great mix of different genres to incorporate in this project so everyone could interpret the overall message. Each piece represents the same central

Baugh 5 message, but projecting it in a new manner and relates to different age groups. The children's book is target for children, the recipe is targeted for children, but can also be targeted for adults and parents because they can practice that recipe with their children, and the third piece, the police report is target to adults and parents to inform their children the severity of bullying. Each genre I used are affected to my audience because they are common enough that the general public will relate to.
