Student Resources: A Guide to Additional Learning


For many students transitioning into the college environment, the fast-paced world of academia can be one that is hard to manage alone. If you are a student who wants help on homework or on managing the additional stresses of college life, use this brochure as a guide to learning on Winona State Universitys campus!

Counseling Services
Need help dealing with personal problems in college? Need to find someone to guide your through your life in college? The Counseling Services is the place to go! Located on the second floor of the wellness center in room 222.

Hours of Operation Monday-Friday: 8:00 am-4:00PM

According to Debbie Dickinson who works in the counseling department the purpose of this service is o provide mental healthcare to student. The mission Winona State University Counseling Services supports the educational mission of Winona State University through the provision of confidential, short-term, professional service aimed at helping students define and accomplish their personal, academic, and career goals. Counselors are committed to helping students learn new skills and incorporate principles of wellness into their lives that foster lifelong student learning, development and success. Counseling Service Provides: One on One counseling Confidentiality Helping with any problems a student may be having Friendly environment with compassionate counselors
Hours of Operation Appointments for tutoring can be made from tutortrac, a website located on the tuturing section of the WSU website. One-on-one and drop in tutoring may be available at select times.

Student Support Services


Need help with a tough class? Need help with concepts that are going to be on a test? Winona State Student Support Services is the place to go! Located on the second floor the Darrell Krueger library in room 219.

According to Kevin Daub a tutor at the tutoring center, tutoring services allows any student to come in with a range of questions and have fellow students help understand the concepts and ideas better and hopefully help them meet their expectations in the class. Student support service include: Tutors who received at least a B in the class and are knowledgeable about the material

Tutors in subjects ranging from hard sciences such as physics, chemistry, and biology, to math classes, and business classes Tutors will help work to strengthen study habits for tests Tutors who go through a training program in order to better serve students Drop in tutoring or one on one tutoring is available based on appointment. Tutortrac, the tutoring website used, easily helps students arrange an appointment with a tutor

The Writing Center


Having trouble on a paper? Need help generating ideas for a topic? The Writing Center is the place to go! The Writing Center is located on the second floor of Minn Hall (in between the Darrell W. Krueger Library and Kryzco Commons) in room 364. Nick Fijacko, a tutor, says the goal of the Writing Center is to help students become better writers. To help students, that is, understand that writing is very much a social activity. Therefore, students can visit the writing center, [and] talk with someone. The Writing Centers services include: Helping students with any type of writing Helping students discuss their writing and their assignments Helping students with grammar and citation questions Providing tutors who are upper-class students working on their bachelor degrees and graduate students who hold bachelor degrees Providing tutors who have gone through a rigorous training program
Hours of Operation Monday-Thursday: 9:00 am-7:00pm Friday: 9:00 am-2:00 pm Make an appointment at the Writing Center, by phone (457-5505), or walk-in. Students are helped on a first-come, first-served basis.

Darrell Krueger Library


Need to study? Need to find sources for your next writing assignment? The Darrell W. Krueger Library is the place to go! Considered by many students to be the second home away from home, the Darell Krueger Library is located on the south-east end of campus, between Mine Hall and the Performing Arts Center. Allison Quam, the Academic Librarian Coordinator and English department Liaison, says the library's mission is to provide our community of learners with the information resources and services they need in an environment conducive to learning. The Darrell Krueger Library's services include : Hours of Operation Teaching the community of learners how to research and use the library's resources Monday-Thursday: 7:30 am-2:00 am Teaching the community of learners how to acquire, license, Friday: 7:30 am-6:00 pm locate and provide access to resources Saturday: 10:00 am-6:00 pm Providing effective, personal assistance at all information desks Sunday: 1:00 pm-2:00 am Providing services and programs designed to assist users with the navigation, management, and effective use of the complex world of information Providing over 220,000 book volumes, over a thousand print periodical titles, and access to over 50 online databases Providing over 1,800 network ports and wireless access, and over ten high speed duplexing laser printers throughout the building
