Lesson Resources: Classroom laptops with Microsoft Word Writing centre (paper, pens, pencils) Laminator and sheets Colour pencils/pens for illustrating Content of Lesson: A. Introduction/Warm up (5 mins) Gather students onto the floor in front of the whiteboard Revise previous drafting and writing lessons o What is publishing? o Who is your audience? B. Development of Ideas (10 mins) Teacher uses anchor chart for exploring publishing a written piece Student ideas and contributions on anchor chart Organise students into groups for publishing or continued editing (with a teacher) Discuss with students the importance of taking care and being thoughtful with writing Questions/Instructions: What are some ideas for presenting published pieces? How do you want to present your published piece? What does it mean when a piece is ready to be published? Have you had your work checked by a teacher? C. Consolidation and Practice (30 mins) Students work in small groups at tables to continue editing or begin publishing their written piece PST conferencing with a small group using classroom laptops Other publishing groups: writing centre, illustrating, re-writing or laminating D. Closure/Reflection (5-10 mins) Students return to floor in front of whiteboard with published pieces of work Students who have achieved success in the writing session are asked to share their work with the group and explain what publishing process they used Further reflection on the importance of thoughtful writing with students and relevance of publishing a piece of work for an audience
